Looks like the US Catholic bishops need education on Catholic doctrine from Mr Homan, too![]()
Trump’s Border Czar Says He’ll “Educate” Pope Leo XIV on Catholic Teaching
Homan argues Leo XIV is wrong on deportations — and says his Catholic grade school education in the 1960s qualifies him to explain the faith’s “always pro–law enforcement” stance.www.thelettersfromleo.com
The Catholic Bishops’ Supreme Court Brief Is a Searing Moral Rebuke to Donald Trump (Evernote link because paywall)
Not really the point of the story, but I have to say I found this part depressing:
Judges, even those of the Supreme Court, in the UK take an oath to "do right to all manner of people after the laws and usages of this realm, without fear or favour, affection or ill will.” That is, they are committed to interpreting the law as they find it to be, not as they think it should be. And if they find they can't do that in a particular case, whether because of their religious beliefs or some other reason, they recuse themselves from hearing it.Remember, a majority of the justices are Catholic, and surely familiar with the conference; I think there is a real chance this brief will carry a lot of weight.
