The author of a controversial memo telling Democrats to abandon the slogan “Abolish ICE” and instead focus on reform and retraining is a former Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection official who for the last seven months has worked for WestExec Advisors, a secretive Washington, D.C., shadow lobbyist that counts as clients major government contractors in the defense and surveillance industry.

In an interview with the Prospect, Blas Nuñez-Neto would not say who his clients are at WestExec Advisors, where he is a senior adviser, only that he has consulted in recent years on immigration, customs, and trade. He said casting his memo as serving the interests of those clients would be “a little disingenuous,” while again declining to say who those clients are.

Florida Cubans targeted for deportation

Cuban immigrants in Florida have been reliable Republican supporters and voters, with 7 in 10 voting for Donald Trump in 2024. "To their shock," the New York Times now reports, "Cubans in Florida Are Being Deported in Record Numbers."

Cubans had long benefited from legal privileges unavailable to immigrants from other countries. … That has changed under President Trump. He has repatriated more than 1,600 Cubans in 2025, according to the Cuban government. That is about double the number of Cubans who were repatriated in 2024. And in the years that Mr. Trump has been president, he has sent more Cubans back than his three predecessors.

Just because I'm feeling vindictive today - after MAGA is over - I think we should use social media posts to identify everyone who supported Trump and strip them of their citizenship. They can actually stay in the country. They'd just never be allowed to vote again. They should also not be allowed to own guns - just like felons.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained a five-year-old Minnesota boy on Tuesday as he returned home from school and transported him and his father to a Texas detention center, according to school officials.

Liam Ramos, a preschooler, and his father were taken into custody while in their driveway, the superintendent of the school district in Columbia Heights, a Minneapolis suburb, said at a press conference on Wednesday. Liam, who had recently turned five, is one of four children in the school district who have been detained by federal immigration agents during the Trump administration’s enforcement surge in the region over the last two weeks, the district said.
