What happens To MAGA When Trump Dies?

Interesting article on various possible outcomes for MAGA after Trump's death.

I like his insights on why JD Vance and others will have difficulty filling Trump's shoes

Figures like J.D. Vance may imagine they can inherit MAGA. He is certainly trying to polish his act. But it’s an act. It completely misunderstands what Trump actually provided.

Trump was not valued for what MAGA saw as competence, policy, or even ideology.

He was valued for psychological permission.

He gave his followers permission to:

  • project cruelty outward
  • violate norms without shame
  • convert grievance into moral superiority
  • mistake dominance for truth
Successors to a Trump persona can echo the rhetoric, but they can’t recreate the grievance ferver. Without Trump’s particular shamelessness and pathological appeal, this is where a lot of falling away can occur, because there’s great disappointment and resentment.

Vance fails not on policy or intelligence, but on psychological fit. MAGA is not seeking a mediocre imitation. They need permission. Trump gave it by modeling pathology without consequence.

Yes! This is what I've been saying for a long time. Trump has a weird "voodoo" that I've been calling "charisma." It's not an easy thing to duplicate and hopefully would not be duplicated for a long time. I just could never picture Vance or DeSantis getting away with half the things Trump gets away with.

Watching Congress trying to pass a budget right now, you can see several blocs of Republican votes that they are trying to keep in line. Trump's direct intervention can usually get nearly all of them to fall in line, but there are still a few holdouts on most issues. No one else can get all of the factions of the party to hold together long enough to do anything legislative. If Trump falls, Vance has to first manage the turf wars in the Cabinet, and then he has to get the House Republicans all on the same page. After that the trick is getting low engagement voters who turned out for Trump to turn out without him on the ballot.

In Texas we just saw a Democrat win a state Senate seat in a district Trump carried by 17% to win by 14%. I need to check numbers, but several memes point to the Republicans having outspent the Democrats 10:1. The results point to low motivation on the Republican electorate, a shift in Hispanic voters, and high engagement by Democrats. Even with Trump in power the coalition that elected him is breaking up. Without him I can't see anyone holding it together for long.

Vance won't get past the turf wars in the Cabinet. Nobody will. Most of the members are self-indulgent children possessing no governmental competence and giving not one care for the country, the people, democracy, the Constitution, or peace. They will destroy themselves and each other and take Vance down with the ship. We have to hope that the House and Senate pick up the reins and operate the government until the Executive branch recovers, post election, under comprehensively new leadership.

edit: incorrect plurality

I have a "take on an empty stomach and wait an hour" pill I take first thing in the morning, and I distract myself from wanting breakfast/coffee by surfing the Internet in my warm bed for a while. I save apnews for last... I come here and hit reddit first.

And I swear, every time I see there's a new post in this thread, and it isn't the one that would make my day .. I feel sorta "Charlie Brown / Lucy / football" all over again. Expected, but still disappointed. MAYBE next time... One can hope.

Looks like Chat GPP or similar to me. Let's see if someone runs with it and does it properly.

Another theory about Trump's condition (again, it reads as if they've run their notes through ChatGPT, but maybe I'm over-suspicious).

Looking at couple of the references I have no idea why Kaiser Permanente. (2019). Benzodiazepine and Sedative Prescribing Guideline. is included. Mostly people figure he takes adderall which is neither.

She says her business is Avalon Publicity and Business which she advertises as increasing your seo and social media presence which is a big red flag to me.

President Donald Trump has displayed a troubling new skin condition, renewing speculation about his health.

Photographers captured the nasty-looking rash on the side of the president’s neck as he attended a Medal of Freedom event at the White House on Monday.

The mystery rash is likely to raise further concerns about the 79-year-old president, who has also come under scrutiny over his severely bruised hands, swollen ankles, and cognitive fitness.

In a statement, Trump’s physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, told the Daily Beast: “President Trump is using a very common cream on the right side of his neck, which is a preventative skin treatment, prescribed by the White House Doctor.

“The President is using this treatment for one week, and the redness is expected to last for a few weeks,” he added.
Uh huh..

OMG. I think I know exactly what that is. There's a small piece of my face that currently looks just like that because I have a basal cell carcinoma, and they are treating it with this new goo that isn't chemo but, instead, makes the cancer ooze out some chemicals that give the immune system cause to sit up and take notice. (Amazing science, but not a good look while the treatment is going on ...)

Basal cell carcinomas are non-lethal, though quite disfiguring if allowed to run rampant.

So the "preventative skin treatment" is to prevent that skin cancer from surviving.

It will be interesting to see if any dermatologists weigh in on this.
