According to a post on X-formerly-Twitter, at least one Cybertruck had its "bulletproof window" shattered by plastic beads before tucking tail and fleeing the parade under police protection.

At least three Cybertrucks were reportedly there as part of a coordinated effort by an out-of-state Cybertruck Club to ferry parade marshals down the route. One marshal posted about their experience riding in the EV on Reddit, saying it was "boos and attacks from start to evacuation."

"I've been volunteering for the marshals for the past four years and I got assigned to cars this year," the marshal wrote. "We had no idea the cars this year were Cybertrucks until we were assigned... I couldn't believe my eyes. I knew it was gonna be bad but holy shit."

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but according to one of The Times' better columnists, Hugo Rifkind,

Mad as this may seem, if nobody ever bought a Tesla again, and Musk’s stake in the firm (currently about $120ish billion) became worth precisely nothing, the stark, boggling truth is that he’d still be the richest man in America, slightly ahead of either Mark Zuckerberg or Jeff Bezos. That’s the new American oligarchy for you, I’m afraid. It has a lot of slack.

When it gets to 142, then it will be lower than before he became President.

That will be what matters.

CONSPIRACY THEORY:

Progressive/Left types are more 'climate conscious' and more likely to make the transition to an EV.

Big Oil / Fossil Fuels aren't known for playing nice with renewables / green tech, and EVs are probably one of the things they hate most.

I would not be in the least bit surprised that they worked up a dossier on Musk, realized he's an incompetent fuck and unhinged as well. So it would make sense that Big Oil may have proposed or incentivized Musk buying his way into leading one of the most dominant EV manufacturers.

Now it's matured, Musk's deranged political ideology and power are a poison pill the left refuses to swallow. Teslas are being dumped or defaced, and it wouldn't surprise me if those burned by buying one of his electric lemons goes back to gas or hybrid of another brand.

Which probably has Big Oil laughing their asses off right now.

I must confess, I have had similar thoughts. Like, "Gee, this isn't going to be great news for EV's in general."

Now if you will excuse me, I've an appointment with my tinfoil milliner.

Eh, I still want an EV, but also I can't afford the upfront. Installing a charger in the garage, and buying the vehicle. We basically always buy used and I think the most we have ever paid for a vehicle is like $15k or $20k, but also, a used EV sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Nah

Lefties who bought a Tesla years and years ago because they thought they were doing a good thing for the environment aren't going to give up on electric altogether just because of Musk, they'll just switch brands if they haven't already.

There are cultists who bought electric only because it was made by Musk and will never buy one that wasn't made by Musk - every Cybertruck owner is on that list for instance - but they were that way regardless of recent events so there's no net change there, and I don't think there's enough of them to matter to the overall market.

We like hybrids. Since we rent and our garage has a single c1960 120v outlet there's no option to install a charger.

As for Tesla I wouldn't consider one even before President Musk went full Qanon because of the way they change features with unwanted software updates. They keep too much control over the vehicle.

Yeah if you live in an apartment, and don't live in a town that has decent charger coverage, you're kind of screwed out of electric for now. : /
