Well, it is true. Or you can lightly flat sand with a fine grit which you are supposed to do occasionally to remove the stuck in the groove bits. Always wash with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly then hand dry and let it sit in the drainer until all moisture has evaporated.

Why don't people's mothers teach them such things these days?

The grandmother taught us to peel, pare, slice, and chop in our hand. Been doing it all my life without incident. I only cut myself when chasing food across a cutting board.

I was taught to do it both ways but use a cutting board because it is safer when the cutting is being done properly. I can also crack an egg with one hand, either left or right. You just have to get a feel for the "pull". Cooking is an art.

My mother taught me that if something is called a "chopping board," then it's pretty likely you can chop things on it.
I think you need to read that again.

Why don't people's mothers teach them to sand their cutting boards down to get rid of the bits of food that get caught in the knife blade's grooves?

Am I that hard to understand?

Yes.

And my mother never taught me to sand. That was one of my brothers.
Could your mom rebuild a Formula B engine? Mine could and did.

Neither of my brothers could sand worth a shit. Worst Bondo job ever.

The question was mostly rhetorical and meant that most people aren't taught things they really do need to learn when young, like they used to be. My high school sweetheart was a rare gem. His mom taught him to wash dishes, his own clothes, how to sew on a button and repair a rip etc. and he didn't mind doing those things at all. Every guy I have had a relationship with since then... don't get me started. They know how they just refuse to help themselves. And yes, that does piss me off.

Besides that, I was just blowing a bit of steam. Toot, toot!
