There's a new fire that sparked near Oakhurst, a foothill community that lies between Fresno and Yosemite National Park along State Route 41. In just a few hours, it's already exploded to 800 acres and is generating its own wind. And, oh yeah, it's 111 degrees out.

Edit: In just the last couple of hours, it has more than tripled in size, to 2,500 acres. It has no containment.

This was particularly close to home, since I know Evia. Years ago, the mother of a friend and work colleague had a stunning villa on the island, which several of us took over for a memorable vacation one summer. It's a beautiful place, or was, and the olive groves are, or were, central to the village economies.
