Trump lawyers refuse to reveal financial information to BBC in defamation case

Donald Trump’s legal team has rejected a request by the BBC to hand over financial information as part of his $10bn defamation case against the broadcaster.
The US president’s lawyers accused the BBC of a “fishing expedition”, according to court filings, after the broadcaster’s representatives asked for details to get evidence on Trump’s claims he suffered reputational and financial damage because of a Panorama documentary centred on the US Capitol riots.

Trump’s team has also asked the court to change the judge overseeing the process and delay the proceedings, in part arguing that Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué A Lett represented a defendant said to have close ties to Hillary Clinton and was involved in a separate lawsuit by President Trump.

The BBC has objected, arguing that the request to change the judge was made “without any grounds but a bare assertion that she is biased against him”.

Trump and the trust “now appear concerned at the prospect of Magistrate Judge Lett resolving this dispute — so much so that Plaintiff now brings a second motion seeking her removal from the case”, the BBC filing said.

Lett, who is overseeing discovery in the BBC suit, was previously assigned to supervise the process in Trump’s lawsuit against Capital One for terminating Trump Organization accounts after the January 6 attack. The district judge assigned to the case later removed her without reason.

Trump’s lawyers say that is enough to remove her from the BBC case as well, while the broadcaster noted the president had not sought Lett’s recusal in other cases she has presided over.

Trump administration weaponized Social Security records, tried to falsely declare 2.7 million people dead

The Trump administration sought to assign bogus death dates to 2.7 million people living in the United States, a flagrantly illegal misuse of Social Security Administration (SSA) data intended to pressure immigrants into leaving the country, a new government insider account reveals.

That shockingly high number far exceeds the 6,000 administrative “killings” previously reported last year in The Washington Post. It comes in a legal disclosure by Jeremiah Schofield, a former SSA senior executive, who was in the room when a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) official laid out a plan to “kill off” millions of people in SSA’s master database.

The DOGE official, private equity investor Jon Koval, said in Schofield’s presence that the purpose of “killing off” the 2.7 million living people was to ruin their lives and push them out of the country. Explaining the scheme, Koval said that either the 2.7 million people would self-deport or they would go to their local Social Security office to prove they are alive where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could detain and forcibly deport them.

During oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington Friday, lawyers for the DOJ presented the government’s case for continuing construction on Trump’s increasingly expensive White House ballroom without the approval of Congress.

In order to demonstrate Trump’s supposedly far-reaching power to destroy and alter national monuments at whim, the DOJ lawyers claimed that if the president wanted to bulldoze the Statue of Liberty in New York, there would be no one with the standing to challenge him.

“If the government decides very quickly to bulldoze the Statue of Liberty, the people whose ancestors—that was the first thing they saw coming to this country, but the government moved too fast—nothing can be done?” Judge Patricia Millett asked, according to Politico’s Kyle Cheney.

“I think that’s right, yes,” the government responded.

Kennedy Center moves to erase Trump references after judge said they were illegally added

The Kennedy Center is removing references to President Donald Trump after a federal judge ruled they were added illegally.

The Kennedy Center is beginning the process of removing references to President Donald Trump a week after a federal judge ruled that his name had been illegally added to the performing arts center.

Roma Daravi, the Kennedy Center’s vice president of public relations, said in a statement to The Associated Press that “we are complying with the court’s order while evaluating all legal options to preserve this revitalization and recognize President Trump’s leadership.”

In a Thursday memo to staff from the Kennedy Center’s Office of General Counsel, the institution’s lawyers said email signatures, letterhead and other documents must reflect the name as “The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts” or “Kennedy Center.”

The changes, the memo said, must be completed by June 12.

I would disagree with this just because Trump isn't making any of this stuff, his fans are. Trump fans that make fan-art of Trump always like to replace his profoundly out-of-shape body with something more powerful and masculine-looking - and I mean always. They never depict him as he truly is. And yeah there's no doubt some fun psychology going on there with those folks but anyways, point is, it's not like Trump is choosing this kind of imagery from a wider selection, it's the only kind he ever gets from his supporters.
