I dunno. I guess, but the whole administration seems so shameless, corrupt, venal and incompetent that blackmail just doesn't seem a particularly efficient or reliable way of achieving anything.

This line of argument puzzles me somewhat. What are people worried Kristi Norm might have been blackmailed into doing, or not doing, to harm the US and its citizens and residents that she was, or was not, already doing? Seems difficult to imagine how she could have done much more damage.

Yep. There's also the possibility of arranging to let in certain goods that really should not be let in. Not just weapons, though that's the stuff of nightmares. "Small" stuff, like invasive species, can wreak havoc, too. (See long list of kudzu, Himalayan blackberries, Japanese knotweed, ash borers, Asian needle ants, zebra mussels, etc., etc., etc.) Wooden furniture that "accidentally" doesn't get inspected for infestations of wood-eating critters. Food or medicine that isn't checked all that closely for compliance with FDA/USDA standards. The ugly possibilities go on and on.

To be blunt about it, if America were a half-way rational country Donald Trump would not be president in the first place
