My neighbor has a henhouse in their back yard. It has been completely wiped out twice, probably by raccoons or coyotes. Several other individual chickens have, shall we say, "mysteriously vanished."
Chickens and other domesticated animals are not just plug-in modules that stand on their own. They are all part of an interlocking agricultural tool kit. Free roaming chickens in a large home garden provide pest control and fertilizer, lay eggs for a few years, then end up in the pot for dinner. Feathers go into pillows. No one function is worth their keep, but the combination of uses brings value. Taken out of context, they are just another expensive pet.

I sense the presence of a fellow chicken-plucker.

More to the point, however, the cost of setting up a productive hen coop is considerable and there is a steep learning curve to keeping them alive, well and laying eggs. Ask anyone who has tried to raise chickens in their back yard.
Also, doesn't that stink to high hell?

Maybe if he had shit up about them while running we would.
I'm trying to imagine the response had Joe Biden or Kamala Harris responded to complaints about the price of eggs by suggesting people should start to keep chickens.

Also wondering what most HOAs would have to say about it.

It's apparently the man who is being detained, not his fiancée.

Long story short -- they're both German nationals. She lives in Las Vegas. He lives in Germany. He was visiting her, and they both visited Mexico together. When they attempted to return, ICE pulled them over for an interview in English.

ICE asked him where he lives, His English isn't too good and he thought they were asking where he was staying in the US, so he replied "Las Vegas." Despite his fiancée immediately correcting him and trying to explain, they took him into custody, where he remains.

That depends on the cleanliness of the henhouse -- healthy henhouses are clean henhouses -- and on your definition of "stink."

If they have some room to run around, bird poop dries quite quickly or washes away in the rain and it biodegrades quickly, as well. As Beebo mentioned, it is great fertilizer.

Then there's the smell of the chickens themselves. Personally, I find the warm, feathery smell of chicken pretty comforting. Other folks, maybe not so much. In any case, a normal chicken coop shouldn't be something one smells in the next yard. (I can't recall ever smelling my neighbor's and they've had chickens for a couple of years.)

And the comments are filled with people boasting about voting for Stein instead of Harris because... both sides, yada yada, Dems didn't do enough so why support them, yada yada, just an unending cascade of grievances that will only get worse under Trump, yet voting against him wasn't an option they could stomach. They're still stuck at the FA stage and are ignoring the FO consequences.

When it's a choice between backing someone you don't much like and a fascist, you have to choose the lesser of the two evils. I don't see why people who call themselves "antifascists" should find that so difficult to understand.

A lot of it is ego. They are too "purist" to vote for a lesser evil and want to see themselves as more special than the main parties.

Because far too many fuckwitted shitstains want results now, now, now and simply refuse to entertain the notion that such sudden changes are unrealistic. Especially without some massive upheaval of the sort that frankly would make many of them squeamish at best.

Its totally unrelated, and I know it's my post originally, but it occurs to me that I couldn't define stink at all because I can't smell at all.

Maybe I should get some chickens.

They act more like a pack of dogs. An alpha spots a squirrel and suddenly they're all enraged at it.

Half the time there's nothing there for them to bark at, just one of them got the whole community howling and barking their heads off like an existential crisis has descended upon them.

And just as quickly, *poof* they forget, and moments later are barking about something completely different.

"GAYS GAYS GAYS!! 'BAMA CARE 'BAMA CARE! DEBT DEBT DEBT! BENGAZHI BENGAZHI BENGAZHI! MUSLIMS MUSLIMS MUSLIMS! MASKS MASKS MASKS!! DRAG QUEENS DRAG QUEENS! TRANS TRANS TRANS! PEDOS PEDOS PEDOS! DEI DEI DEI! INFLATION INFLATION!! EGGS EGGS EGGS! WOOF WOOF FUCKING WOOF!" All they care about is that they're all barking at the same thing together, doesn't matter what.
