How about the water supply from outer state for instance?
There are very few countries who need totally nothing (essential) from their neighbors.
Yes, that's a fair point. Water, and oil, would be definite pain points for the state.

Like Oregon and Washington, you have a sharp East/West divide. As you know (probably far too well), large chunks of each state are as rabidly red as Oklahoma.

Thought police.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been forced to delete a graphic claiming that its job is to stop illegal "ideas" from entering the United States.

"If it crosses the border illegally, it's our job to STOP IT," the graphic on ICE's since-deleted X post reads. Among the things that could "illegally" enter American soil, the agency listed "people, money, products, ideas."

In a statement to Futurism and other outlets, ICE media lead Mike Alvarez insisted that the graphic was posted in error.

"That post was sent without proper approval and should not have been shared," Alvarez told us. "'Ideas' should have said 'intellectual property.'"

"Without proper approval" is how this administration runs.

Large, sparsely populated chunks.

While the Stock Market is pretty much vibes-based, and tends to reflect traders' short term bets on how share prices will move, the currency and bonds markets are a much better reflection of where the serious money is moving as a consequence of events. It's all based on predictions of what's likely to happen, but movements in the currency and bonds markets are generally far more consequential than those in the stock markets.

Four dimensional chess or flailing wildly? You decide.
As I was just telling some friends, I bet the end result of these trade negotiations is that we'll end up right back where we started; but with plenty of economic shock and damage along the way. ...and he'll try to spin this as a great victory.

"Another such victory and we are lost." (King Pyrrhus of Epirus).
Well damn...

I'd *heard* the term "Pyrrhic Victory" before, but never made the connection.
I had presumed it was "Pyric Victory" as in "Pyre", indicating flames, like burning a corpse.

I had always associated it for some reason with pyrite, or Fool's Gold. As in it appears to be valuable until you look at it closely. Both words use the Greek root for fire, so I'm not entirely wrong, just mostly wrong.

I knew the proper meaning just because I was reading about it a while ago in reference to the Russia-Ukraine war. I wasn't initially expecting Ukraine to hold out this long... I just figured our goal was to make sure Russia paid dearly for it.

I wasn't sure what reaction to click to this article... I don't LIKE that USA isn't seen as the land of the free anymore (for good reason). I also don't want to hit a negative reaction and come off as insulting the article... I don't want to hit "sad" since I'm happy our bad example is making some things better in other countries.

It occurs to me that if China really wants to force the tariff issue all they have to do is sell a large quantity of US bonds each week, which seems to be what freaked trump and crew out. I'm not sure they would want to do that though since the way things are going they are set to become the next world power.
