They were forced to vote - they couldn't just not show up , but they couldn't get Leahy to evict them.

This is a shameful day for our country, but also probably a good thing in the near future.

grr ... one of the things frumpt’s lawyers said at the end was nobody predicted the sixth, even the dc mayor. she predicted something would happen wrt his stuff that day and asked ppl not to go downtown and am sure my company was not the only one that shut their doors that day and had everyone work from home. he also listed the dc police but they can not enter capitol grounds without being invited by the capitol police

Sadly expected result. The GOP has pretty much officially granted Trump blanket immunity for any and all misdeeds. There's nothing else we can do about it; it's up to state courts to pursue some semblance of justice against him now.

Time for us to just move on with repairing the damage. There's COVID relief to pass.

Trump walks away though as expected, so the layers were good enough for him.
He did not walk away. New York and Georgia are pursuing criminal cases. The District of Columbia and the Department of Justice can still pursue cases using the information presented in the Senate, plus the recent news revelations like McCarthy asking for help from Trump and not getting it.

Of course I meant from this trail.
He will end up in jail already somehow.
Or people who's money is due will handle things.

As Manager Raskin said, the real trial was the House and Senate. And they showed their true colours.

We really do need to celebrate and recognize the 7 who switched sides.

So we have 43 insurrectionists in the Senate. Who's the most vulnerable and up for re-election soonest that we can work on eliminating?
Here's the 2022 map.

Portman in Ohio already announced he isn't running. Ohio has been reddening, but Sherrod Brown has outperformed other dems on a liberal platform in the state. We'll have to see who throws their hat in the ring.

Pennsylvania is an open seat as Toomey isn't running. That freed him up to vote to convict. Same with Burr, but NC isn't that competative.

Ron Johnson in Wisconsin is a flaming asshole and a potential target. His race will probably get a lot of attention and would be a good pickup.

Rubio in Florida would be a good target as well if they can reverse the state trend of going more conservative. eta: Hoping for a devastating Rubio v. Ivanka primary to shatter the GOP, and hope the dems can nominate a good candidate.

Crapo in Indiana would be a harder fight but is within the realm of possibility.

The other Republican held seats up in the next election are in deep red states. They were more afraid of primary challenges than the general election.

He could have had Triumph the Insult Comic Dog present his case and walk away. His lawyers were bad enough to give 7 Republicans reason to vote to convict when he started with a probable 52-48 vote.
