I was on Facebook and Twitter. I didn't like them. I don't think that algorithms should decide what is good for me and what not.
Wading through tons of bogus and fake news.... no thanks. So I canceled both and now I live happily ever after without social media.
It is so relaxing not to read them any longer.
I don't think I will join another one any time soon,
See....this is why Google+ needed to become a thing and actually popular so we wouldn't have to choose between Zuck and Musk.

All free as in free beer.
All free as in freedom.
All open-source.
None owned by a corporation or any other for-profit.
None backed by venture capital.
All decentralised. Lots and lots of instances with individual owners strewn across the planet, including even outside the USA.
And none with a secret-sauce algorithm that forces weird shit upon you that you don't want to see
because you don't want to see it.
There's a social networking world outside American megacorporations, in case you didn't know.
I never used google+. With google's regular search engine, it used to be putting a + before a word meant it was required to be in the result. Then google+ came along with their +usernames. So they changed the search to allow that and require double quotes around a single word to mean a required word. If there were quotes around a phrase it meant a required phrase. So that is what google+ meant to me, an annoyance in searching for things.
Google+ also didn't have an API for the longest time. When meant all the social i fluencer blogger types at the time couldn't automate their workflor and just crosspost everything with Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc.
Funny how literally nobody knows that Google+ is a 98% Diaspora* ripoff, from the design (Google stole the whole "black menu bar at the top" shtick from Diaspora*) to "circles" (Diaspora* claims to have had them first, named "aspects"; Friendica actually had them first, named "groups").
The 2% missing are that Diaspora* is decentralised whereas Google+ was a centralised walled-garden silo.
Thank you! One more reason to NEVER EVER OWN A CELLPHONE.
Try having one that isn't an iPhone and doesn't come with Google Play shit either.
They exist. I've got one. It works.
I would rather see hashtag support on Threads first honestly.
This is...interesting?
Meta promised to make Threads compatible with W3C open standard for social media.

I get a weird vibe off of this, similar to when
AOL (and other "online" services) users were unleashed on USENET.
Truth Social is based on Mastodon. It doesn't communicate with other servers though.
Truth Social is Mastodons GPL-licensed source code, copy-pasted and illegally re-licensed as proprietary, non-free, copyrighted and closed-source because "WE GOTS THEM THAR MILLION-DOLLAR LAWYERS, AND Y'ALL OPEN-SOURCE COMMIES DON'T GOTS NO SHIT!"
