Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy entry for Earth was "Mostly Harmless"

In that spirit, in some far off future summary of history, Trump will be listed simply as "worse than useless". We would have been better off leaving the white house empty for 4 years instead.

That fucking mendacious jackass and the jackals using him are a stage 4 cancer in our government.

Douglas Adams had some pretty strong opinions about Republicans and where they were headed. He also wrote a prequel to "The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy", titled "Young Zaphod Plays It Safe".

Ronald Reagan plays a role in it.

Details about the territory swap have been leaked: Russia wants complete control about Donbass, including parts of it Russia has not conquered yet.

In return Russia would give back areas around Sumy and Charkiv. In other words Russia would gain 6600 km² in Donbass and give back about 440 km².

Putin bragged on the meeting in Anchorage that he will conquer these areas anyway. He also demanded that Ukraine recognizes Crimea finally as Russian, and that Russia gets the annexed parts of Saporishya and Cherson as well.

In return Russia would stop attacking new areas. In other words it is for every bit as bad as we expected with the orange idiot.

Trump ruled out that Russia will return Crimea and a NATO membership of Ukraine.

President Zelenskyy can't settle on those terms. It would be completely unlawful.

Russia wants Ukraine to cede land to Russia in exchange for peace.

However, the Constitution of Ukraine says,

Article 2
  • The sovereignty of Ukraine extends throughout its entire territory.
  • Ukraine is a unitary state.
  • The territory of Ukraine within its present border is indivisible and inviolable.
Article 17
  • To protect the sovereignty and territorial indivisibility of Ukraine, and to ensure its economic and informational security are the most important functions of the State and a matter of concern for all the Ukrainian people.
Article 73
  • Issues of altering the territory of Ukraine are resolved exclusively by an All-Ukrainian referendum.
The Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law” (Закон України «Про правовий режим воєнного стану») specifically prohibits both referendums and elections while martial law is in force.

  • Article 19, Part 1
“During martial law, it is prohibited to conduct elections of the President of Ukraine, as well as elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and local self-government bodies.”

  • Article 19, Part 2
“It is also prohibited to hold all-Ukrainian and local referendums.”
While President Trump may well be able to get away with doing what he feels like, regardless of what the US Constitution says, other countries' courts and legislatures aren't quite so supine as those in the US.

They are at the White House now and flapping lips is spewing his usual lies, garbage, nonsense, snarly bullying, spittle and stupidity. It is beyond nauseating and I cannot currently watch but will follow it later on as I cool down. Just listening to that nails-on-chalkboard voice drone on makes me wretch.

Sandra Sue Surf on the Facebook said:
Donald Trump thought he was lining up another ambush with his “peace talks” routine. But tomorrow? He’s not facing one man. He’s facing a wall of unity.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is coming to the White House, and he’s bringing backup—the kind that makes dictators sweat and wannabe strongmen choke on their “deals.”
Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Zelenskyy:
Ursula von der Leyen (European Commission President)
Emmanuel Macron (France)
Friedrich Merz (Germany)
Sir Keir Starmer (UK)
Alexander Stubb (Finland)
Mark Rutte (NATO Sec-Gen)
Giorgia Meloni (Italy – expected)
Translation: This isn’t Zelenskyy vs Trump. It’s Ukraine + NATO vs the world’s most corrupt deal-maker in his own office.
And the timing? Right after Trump chauffeured Putin around Alaska like his prom date. That red carpet moment just set the stage for a global reality check in Washington.
Tomorrow, the White House won’t be Trump’s playground. It’ll be the frontline for democracy—and Trump’s bluff is about to get called in surround sound.
Except it wasn't. They all gushed praises for Trump bringing everyone to the table and moving this peace (read appeasement) process further than had ever been managed during the past five (only five) years of turmoil (any term other than aggression). They are all going home to "work" toward a viable solution under Trumps glorious guidance. They are supporting Ukraine's annihilation with smiles on their faces and glints in their eyes. This is over. Putin will have the resources to prop up his own and his oligarchy's wealth for another decade.

Unfortunately, the European governments can't do very much without US support and backing, which means flattering Trump like crazy. The main concern is that Trump can sink Ukraine at any time not only by cutting off US military assistance but also by invoking clauses in the export licences whereby US equipment is sold to other NATO members to prevent them from sending it to Ukraine by refusing to sell replacement materiel to countries that donate part of their own stock.

This, sadly, is the world in which we now have to live.
