The GQP us trying to punish major league baseball for objecting to their voter suppression laws.
Yeah, that's gonna go down well. 🍿
And Delta.
They're going to end up with a state full of the "MyPillow" versions of businesses.

Elected Republicans now often refer to themselves as “the party of the working class”. In western democratic terms, Republican ideology has more in common with Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement National in France than, say, with the British Conservative party, let alone the German Christian Democrats. The party is moving closer towards white nationalism.
This is the FT -- very serious paper, read by the people who own, and really do run, the country.

Interesting article. Worth the read, imo.

One Republican’s Lonely Fight Against a Flood of Disinformation (msn.com)

Mr. Riggleman, who first ran and won in 2018 after the Republican incumbent in his district retired, joined the arch-conservative Freedom Caucus and was endorsed by Mr. Trump.

Now he says it “gives me shivers” to be called a Republican. He hopes to show that there is still a way to beat back the lies and false beliefs that have spread from the fringe to the mainstream. It is a heavy lift, and one that depends on overcoming two strong impulses: politicians’ fear of losing elections and people’s reluctance to accept that they were taken in by a lie.

Mr. Riggleman summarized his conversations with the 70 percent of House Republicans he said were privately appalled at the former president’s conduct but wouldn’t dare speak out.

“‘We couldn’t do that in our district. We would lose,’” he said. “That’s it. It’s that simple.”

Because the rest are too chicken to do what is necessary to fix it.
For some of them, the party as it is is all they've known.

I think this is the result of gerrymandering and the primary system.

That is, in large parts of the US, it seems to me, there are large parts of the country where the only elections that matter to the Republican incumbent are the primaries, since the official Republican candidate will, under normal circumstances, be the winner in the congressional or senatorial elections.

All the incumbents now have to live with the knowledge that if they say anything to upset Trump, he can, and will, force you to face a MAGA opponent endorsed by him in the next primary, thus causing you no end of expense as you have to mount your own campaign and harassment for you and your family when the flying monkeys get loose.

Before Trump, I think the Tea Party used very similar tactics -- go along with us or you'll get primaried, and probably lose.

Right now, they've got Trump skulking and rumbling in Florida, while everyone waits to see what happens when his various legal and financial problems move on to their next stages, as inevitably they must in the next year or two, and they're absolutely terrified.

The volcano is going to go at some point, and that's going to set the monster rampaging, and then the movie really speeds up.

They're in the same position as that unfortunate young lady of Riga, who smiled as she rode on a tiger.

Still not buying their excuses for being shit human beings.
You think they flock to the current state of the Republican party because they're good, giving people who only want to live their lives, and not anyone else's?

You are talking to the only person in my family that has never been Repug. They don't want a level playing ground. They want everyone who isn't them to be beneath them. So what part of "excuses for being shit human beings" did you not get?

The number of Americans identifying as Republican is the lowest it has been in a decade: Gallup poll (msn.com)

The GOP is losing its grip, according to the latest Gallup poll.

The number of Americans identifying as Republicans or as independents who lean toward the GOP dropped to 40% in the first quarter of 2021, compared with the number of Democrats or independents leaning toward the Democratic party hitting 49%. And that nine-percentage-point lead is the greatest Democratic advantage that Gallup has measured since the fourth quarter of 2012, when former President Barack Obama was re-elected.
