Coca-Cola just revealed three new holiday ads created with generative AI. One for Coke Zero is on its YouTube page, unlisted. The comments below the video are a war zone. People hate the ad. They love the ad. As things turn to shit on the internet and real life, people are consumed with a conflict they feel they may be able to control: whether or not a corporation will use AI to generate the ads it uses to sell us a sugary drink.

"It gives me the warm fuzzies," say the Robot Overlords.

This is a personal observation. I've become numb to AI ads, reels, posts, et. al. My eyes glance and my hand scrolls past them like they don't exist. Our training videos yesterday included an AI character that breathed like a buffalo and occasionally looked down rather than ever simulating a blink. I let it play on a side screen, because that is monitored, then scanned the text and completed the quiz without paying any attention to buffalo woman.

The same thing has occurred with CGI movies that would've caught my attention a year ago. Prime is packed with these things. My thumb clicks past them like they're AI generated garbage. Perhaps they are, or perhaps I'm simply bored with video entertainment; they're both acceptable explanations.

I do want to see the third season of Umbrella Academy though.

In our fallen world, not even our advertisements are genuine anymore....
They haven't been genuine for a long time... spend money to have someone fake lifting of pizza with glue for cheese or have some intern feed a machine several Old videos and push a button to spit out content. .... i imagine a 30 second cola ad would cost them thousands to get the actors, rig the truck with lights, find the snowy location... the difference is a the cost and who gets paid.. being Creative in the future won't hold as much monetary value as it does today.

What entertains me the most about AI is the details it gets wrong and just smooths over with freakish results. Guess they are suppose to look happy, to me they look drugged.

:qft:

Adverts have always been fake. AI adverts just make the fakeness blatantly obvious.

Thats the thing.

You pay an actor because they are a professional pretender.

They can pretend to be happy on command.

And AI is just like, "The average of happyneas looks like this."

And its weird.

Yes, except the best actors actually ARE happy (or whatever) on command.

The thing I could not care less about is the quality or the lack of it in commercials. Who cares, it is their money they are trowing away, not mine.

Oh hey, it's (AI) Christmas advertising time once again.

The coke one was too short for me to get a 'feel' for it. The McDonalds one is up there as the dumbest commercial of all time.

'Come to McDonald's because Christmas, your family, your kids, and snow is shit.'
