It is possible in the US, and this is the sort of case where it is most likely to happen. The plea deal is not final until the Court accepts it.

That's what happened with Hunter Biden's tax and gun case, largely due to political interference at the time. I have seen criminal cases like this have the deal rejected as well, especially if there is significant publicity.

edit: Looks like the judge did accept the plea. That is a much more difficult situation. Unless there is misconduct, that may not be possible to overturn.

I suppose it must vary from state to state, but didn't the judge reject Roman Polanski's plea bargain almost on the eve of the sentencing hearing because he considered it too lenient?

In the UK both the prosecution and members of the public can ask the Attorney General's Office to refer sentences to the Court of Appeal on the grounds of undue leniency if they depart from the accepted sentencing guidelines, just as the defence can appeal against sentences that are too severe. I was a bit worried when this was introduced but it works pretty well.

I'm not a lawyer, I just play one on the internet. I've heard inconsistent information on how much power the prosecutor has versus the judge. I think the judge can't do much without a prosecutor pressing charges but there are probably a ton of exceptions....

I just know this case is horrible and that plea deal is soft as all hell. I'm also pretty sure not much can be done about it now since we have strong rules against things like double jeopardy.

Women get sent to the gulags first, obviously. Which women? All women. Every woman. Every woman and girl is sent to the gulags. We will determine who the good ones are after the fact. Well, what about the good ones? What about the trad ones? First of all, there are no trad ones or good ones. Second of all, we will determine which ones are acceptable after they're all imprisoned. Then we will let them out.

So they go to the gulag first. They go to the breeding gulags. The good ones will be liberated. The bad ones will toil in the mines forever.

It might not seem worth dignifying such hyperbolic and dubiously sincere rhetoric with an essay, in part because it’s too openly misogynistic to require any analysis. But that would be a mistake. It’s worth thinking about what a conservative voice without any conscience behind it says it wants not because it’s clearly earnest speech or a remotely realistic plan. Rhetoric untethered to any moral or social constraints can nonetheless be interesting because of what it reveals about the conservative id. What is the quiet part unarticulated by more polite conservative voices? What do conservatives want, when it comes down to it?

I am not saying that the conservative is not interested in relegating women to the home, in some reinvention of the largely fictive fifties housewife. I am not saying they’re not worried about the future of the white population. They are doubtless worried about all of these things, and plenty more besides which. But the idea of relegating women, be it to the gulag or the home—or the mines, a deeply suggestive metaphor—has another benefit that may be even more alluring and salient. It offers to eradicate our shaming gaze from historically male-coded places and spaces, from the office to the university to political discourse. It is less, on this analysis, about what women have to do and more about what we’re not allowed to think or to feel anymore: unimpressed with the men who feel entitled to our admiration.

I kinda sorta wonder what eldritch horror, what toxic twig or mangled nub lurks below his belt. Whatever it is must be so utterly and completely horrific that no person, man or woman, would willingly (even with compensation) endure it.

Most guys can get by with a large/loud/pricey vehicle. He must be compensating for something nightmarish beyond imagination.
