He was pushed to resign, but I wonder what kind of environment it is for any women working there, or anyone really. These types rarely feel bold enough to spew out their shit unless their “colleagues” nod along.

Rob Rakochey, who was awarded a King's counsel (KC) title in March in recognition of his contributions to the legal community, resigned this week from his partnership at Field Law, the firm confirmed Thursday.

His age isn't mentioned, but given his long years of practice, he's at least 60, or close to. Neither is there any mention of past problematic behavior, which could provide some useful context for such a blatantly unprofessional message. But given his high status within his profession, I have a hard time believing that he was normally given to such glaring public displays of inappropriate behavior that could torpedo his career.

This sounds to me like someone whose filters dropped, so either late-stage alcoholic who has completely lost control of his addiction or early stages of dementia/Alzheimer's.

I disagree. I think Biden is very well grounded in reality. I see this announcement as a huge middle finger to the conservatives in the Supreme Court and Congress, with a taunt, "Go ahead, I double-dog dare you to argue that women don't have equal rights in the US!"

this is obviously horrifying... Sounds like it was less about the judge and more about a VERY OVERLY GENEROUS plea bargain from bad prosecutors.

I suppose it must vary from state to state, but didn't the judge reject Roman Polanski's plea bargain almost on the eve of the sentencing hearing because he considered it too lenient?

In the UK both the prosecution and members of the public can ask the Attorney General's Office to refer sentences to the Court of Appeal on the grounds of undue leniency if they depart from the accepted sentencing guidelines, just as the defence can appeal against sentences that are too severe. I was a bit worried when this was introduced but it works pretty well.

It is possible in the US, and this is the sort of case where it is most likely to happen. The plea deal is not final until the Court accepts it.

That's what happened with Hunter Biden's tax and gun case, largely due to political interference at the time. I have seen criminal cases like this have the deal rejected as well, especially if there is significant publicity.

edit: Looks like the judge did accept the plea. That is a much more difficult situation. Unless there is misconduct, that may not be possible to overturn.
