Time to see if you can get Idiot Manager to put in a requistion form for a brick extender, plastic, nubbed, 1/3 height.
Admittedly, it's not ISO9000 itself that's the problem, more that it get used to compound red tape. It would be just fine to "document and date," but the "any changes have to be submitted to two departments in triplicate" is a bit lolzy. Stuff like "oh, this part goes the other way round, they never fixed the drawing" was the order of the day.I worked on the ISO-9001 certification at one company that didn't turn it into a nightmare... because ISO-9000 is surprisingly flexible. At the bottom level you write down what you do and how you know you're doing it. That's it. You don't start doing things you're not already doing. That's where the problem starts.
I'll be a new hire myself in a bit over a week. Shouldn't be much mentoring though, this isn't my first rodeo, so it should just be "here's the blueprints and that's where the stuff is." Best interview ever -- instead of being sweated by a clueless beancounter, one of the production guys showed me what they make and I was all "Yep, I can do that."Monday I take my first step into a management role by mentoring a new hire. All your thoughts and prayers please.

I think you meant Pollock. And not the fish.New head cannon: Perl stands for Pollack Extraction and Reporting Language.
That's pretty lame. Supposedly they ran the paint splatter through ocr and got some random characters. Since Perl recognizes any mix of letters and / or numbers that begins with a letter as an indentifier and allows an identifier by itself to be a legitimate noop piece of code, they pass as Perl. For additional lameness, they didn't even show what characters were not valid. They just put "not valid".New head cannon: Perl stands for Pollack Extraction and Reporting Language.

yeah, either that or the detail you need is BURRIED in Volume 14, page 238 of their horribly verbose, poorly organized documentation...
