I’m watching the procession, now. Just woke up not too long ago, waiting for the coffee to brew. Strange how I have so much difficulty with taking traditions too seriously yet love to see such pageantry and marching in unison. It is probably a very primal thing for humans. Singing all together, marching in step, religious rituals, etc. I am both repulsed when they are forced upon me, but super emotional if I join in voluntarily. ☺

Every soldier, policeman or guard you see in the procession and along the road are at least 150 pounds each.
Plus all the people that have to guide and secure the royals, presidents, prime ministers and others.
Accommodating all of them, the BBC staff stretched to the max.
The extra day off for half the nation.
It is just sinfully expensive IMHO.

True.

There are many things that have cost much too much, not only in $, but in time and lives, like churches and monuments, etc. that we would object to now, but when you are standing in front of or inside fill you with awe. I’m not religious but when entering some of the Catholic Churches here, I automatically start to whisper, and I marvel at all the details. Maybe the important thing is to be aware of the cost and (the often times negative) history that comes along with these rituals instead of letting yourself fall completely into the chosen narrative.

I'm all for giving heads of state a decent state funeral.
But somehow I found these last 10 days at least a bit overdone.

Funny to see: there were a hundred or more heads of states and leaders present with political powers. And who get the best places in Westminster Cathedral right opposite King Charles and his closest family? The royals from Sweden and the Netherlands.
Yes these royals are personal friends of King Charles and late Queen Elizabeth, but I had expected other people there. Maybe it is done to avoid making tough decisions?

According to The Times (which I trust in matters in matters like this, if nothing else)

Lord Renwick, who served as British ambassador to the United States in the early 1990s, said that he felt sorry for the head of protocol at the Foreign Office responsible for avoiding an incident as dignitaries gather in London.

He said that while seating crowned heads of royal families was governed by a clear order of precedence determined by length of reign, other world leaders were treated according to how sensitive they were.

(Though, having said, I think the dig at President Macron is completely uncalled for, particularly since he has behaved with impeccable dignity, generosity and good manners throughout, despite Liz Truss' childish attacks on him during her campaign for the Tory leadership).

Doubtful. He would have received the same seat. Then, we would have been forced to hear and see the temper tantrum heard throughout the world.
Either that or he would have pushed the coffin off the pedestal, climbed on it and shouted "Look at me! Look at me!"

The greatest respect is between friends. Friends don't count points, and will take a hit to help their pal without even thinking of it. Of course, Trump is deaf to that.
