If violence isn't the way to end racism in America, then what is? | Arwa Mahdawi

The uncomfortable truth is that, sometimes, violence is the only answer left

And the special firearms teams are just that -- they're not SWAT teams unless the police are really expecting trouble, at least not in the UK.

Most regular cops don't use their gun ever during their entire career, other than for practice reasons at the shooting range. But it is hard to predict how serious the situation is when the police is called for assistance. So they are trained to use one, just in case.
But when for instance dismantling a drugs lab or arresting a top notch wanted criminal or a terrorist suspect are planned, they use real specialists, to secure the place first.

I keep seeing this pop up everywhere, and I have no idea WTF it is. I haven't found any details about it on a casual search. Maybe junior ROTC kids? Maybe some kids like to play army, and they have parents who give them tacticool gear for it? It's just weird.

Noooo. I was in JROTC and we never had access to freaking riot gear. Plus, JROTC is high school - some of those kids in that video and the other one are way too young to be in high school.

Youth wing of one of those militia groups? The members' kids, maybe?

Just guessing.

Even the Mennonites are pissed off. If they ever riot, look out! They look nice, but they could seriously fuck shit up with their powerful farm muscles and medieval farming tools.

That was my first guess too.

Although, acccording to this they're just National Guard squads with a few very short members.

It's part of the white supremacist tactic to accelerate a race war. On top of agent provocateurs and opportunistic internet anarchists.

Sounds about right. During occupy some good decisions were being made by some smart people, like nonviolence. Then you had anarchists getting riled up by undercover cops and smashing things at random.

Why does his nose not stick out to the moon by now? Its not like he's a 'real' boy.

Maybe his nose doesn't grow, but his hands shrink.....

Columbus is under a curfew tonight. National Guard will be patrolling downtown. I have heard sirens all day (I am about a mile from the statehouse).

I saw some unverified reports from some of my old Occupy Wall St friends that some George Floyd protestors rushed the white house on Thursday night. I can't find anything to corroborate it, and if it happened, I don't think they made it very far. That's the rumor I've heard, at least.

That is because you are in a civilized country.

You may joke but there are some situations where they would hold the advantage. If the electrical grid went out they would be just fine but anyone opposed to them would have some serious problems.

I'd post proof about the White Supremecist part, but I'm really squeamish about linking to that sort of site.

Rioting in Philly

Can't we just lynch that damn cop?

[Monica Dream]

There's a million more like him, is the problem.

The problem is institutional and cultural in nature.

Judging by approval polls and various people commenting on social media I'd say it's at least a third of our population. From hardcore flag-and-gun waving kind to the passive-aggressive Karens.
