The police came tonight to take away one of the neighboring cars. I listened to a bit of it and it seems they identified the vehicle as being involved in the riots. I had a blissful two days of peace here during those times. I guess I now know what they were up to.

Yes, one of the minor things protest vets can pass on to newbies. The cops will take your phone so write legal aid's number (plus anything else you want to have available) on your arm, especially if you plan to get arrested.

Handy protest items: a bandana and a bottle of water. Bandana xan be a bandage or if you soak it with the water good for wrapping your face and breathing amidst tear gas. Learned from some 60 year old lady in Caracas, a many times protester. She had a whole protest bag of stuff, first aid items were involved, I don’t remember everything.

Yes, quite a few senior US police have been trained in Israel. I think the knee on the neck (banned by domestic police trainers) is taught in the Krav Maga the IDF and others use. The tide is turning against this Israeli training as one or more states oppose it and after Amnesty Int called it out as teaching human right abuse techniques. It is time for the US to end its deadly exchange programmes with Israel

A very quick search on Google suggests that the British police are warned, in detail, of the dangers of restraint in the prone position, that it should be used only if absolutely necessary, and only until it's safe to allow suspect to sit or stand, precisely because of the risk of asphyxia.

Keeping a suspect on the ground like that for 8 minutes or more is clearly way, way outside the guidelines, and would clearly be unlawful.

I was being ironic. Actually the real DC cops are extremely professional with protests and crowd control. These were not dc cops.
