Why bother with the rotting meat. These flexi-sleeves can work around anything - wood, metal tubing, etc.
Yeah, let's wore up a cyborg tree. That sounds like it will end well.

Also wouldn't a robot with metal tubing outside of it just be a robot?

On the recommendation of a Masto friend, I just bought this rather nifty sounding app:

‎PlantSnap Plant Identification

Instantly identify plants of all kinds: flowers, trees, succulents, mushrooms, cacti and more! PlantSnap is the revolutionary plant identification app from Earth.com built to help you instantly identify plants in a snap.

Users on iOS12 can experience instant plant recognition, no framing or snapping required! Simply tap a detected plant on your device for information on the plant in a real-time Augmented Reality view.

PlantSnap now works in every country on Earth and is translated into 30 languages! Our database has been upgraded to over 500,000 species, and the algorithm is now 94% accurate.

"Failsafe Image" of Ultima Thule. This was sent just before closest approach, in case the probe hit a small moon or ring particle. Then the probe was too busy for a few hours taking data to send anything else back. Now the replay will start, and we will get much better pictures in the next day or two. It appears to be a giant peanut:

That seems to be a typical shape for small (10 miles and less?) asteroids. Doubtless, there is some rule of thumb that will be devised as soon as we have a few more asteroids imaged well.

To the tune of "Frosty the Snowman":

Ultima Thule
Was a KBO, you know
It orbits where there ain't no air
Because its frozen snow!

Ultima Thule
Got visited one day
By a plucky probe that swung by Jove
To pick up delta-vay! (Vee!)

It zoomed right by the snowballs
And measured them real well
The photos are showing us
An object old as hell!

Ultima Thule
We'll come visit you some day!
We won't zip by; we'll stop and why -
We'll move on in to stay!
