She is splitting her time between DC and NYC. That size patch in either place would be a bit expensive.
It's a community garden. She's not paying for the land. Such gardens are often set up in abandoned lots. I'm just pointing out the amount of effort going into a 4x4 patch is what my local elementary school makes the kids do (they have a garden at the school). It is a miniscule amount of effort.

Okay that's true. And maybe some people did imagine her tending a field of wheat or something. Still even 16 sq.ft needs frequent attention to be successful. Maybe she has 'people' to do that for her. I agree it's not the most impressive thing about her.

Sounded more like you were bragging about the size of your "patch."

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange arrested at Ecuadorian Embassy in London

About time Ecuador. I'm curious if these secret charges filed by the US are going to be related to Mueller's investigation. If so, I hope he's facing enough that he spills the beans. It does sound like it may have been an accident related to another case where he is not the defendant, though.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange arrested at Ecuadorian embassy
The arrest comes less than a day after WikiLeaks revealed its founder was under intense surveillance at the embassy, with a trove of private documents and video finding their way to a group of alleged Spanish extortionists. Last week Moreno indirectly blamed WikiLeaks for helping circulate hacked photos of "my bedroom, what I eat and how my wife and daughters and friends dance", which spread on social media.
SMH...If this is true, wth? Biting the hand of the President of the country giving you refuge?

He's started to look like Rip Van Winkle while residing in the embassy from the looks of this picture.

People keep saying he looks like a really old crazy person but IMO all he needs is a shave and he'll look perfectly fine.

It's just jarring because the news has always used stock photographs of clean-shaven and well-dressed Assange up to this point in articles about him, so that's what people were expecting to see.

Texas students will have to learn cursive again starting this fall

In elementary school, I had to learn cursive because the teacher flat-out lied and said that in high school and college most if not all work had to be done in cursive. I have literally not had the occasion to use cursive since my last cursive lesson in elementary school.

My signature takes more from my high school art-class calligraphy lessons than from my elementary cursive lessons.

He believes (as do I) that the Americans want him either or dead rotting away in Guantanamo, it's hardly surprising that he may have gone a little eccentric.

Frankly, I'm surprised that there hasn't been an 'accidental' drone strike on that embassy - the USA executes without trial in the rest of the world (or at least the bits that can't hit back) , why not the soon-to-be-friendless UK ?

Ecuador's official currency is the US dollar, because they messed up their own currency so badly they had to drop it. Despite any political differences we may have with them, using the dollar makes that country extremely useful for money laundering. The US would not want to mess up that ability for our filthy rich.

The mechanics of money laundering is hiding the source of funds, whether something illegal, or you just want to avoid taxes. Using cash breaks the paper trail, making it hard to trace where the money is coming from. If the cash comes from offshore banks, like in Ecuador, it becomes doubly hard.

Hackers publish personal data on thousands of US police officers and federal agents
A hacker group has breached several FBI-affiliated websites and uploaded their contents to the web, including dozens of files containing the personal information of thousands of federal agents and law enforcement officers, TechCrunch has learned.

The hackers breached three sites associated with the FBI National Academy Association, a coalition of different chapters across the U.S. promoting federal and law enforcement leadership and training located at the FBI training academy in Quantico, VA. The hackers exploited flaws on at least three of the organization’s chapter websites — which we’re not naming — and downloaded the contents of each web server.

The hackers then put the data up for download on their own website, which we’re also not naming nor linking to given the sensitivity of the data.

Some good news.

Schools to get free sanitary products

[QUOTE
More than 141,000 girls in all Welsh primary and secondary schools will be given access to free sanitary products under Welsh Government plans.
Ministers have set up a £2.3m grant for councils to fund the scheme.
The move aims to tackle period poverty - where women and girls find it too expensive to buy sanitary items.
It follows similar moves to roll out free products at secondary schools in England, and to offer them to patients in the Welsh NHS.
Campaigners say young women and girls find themselves missing school because they cannot afford the items.

Here in Atlanta, they do a drive each year for "grooming kits" for school kids that can't afford them. Sanitary items for the girls are part of it, but also other basic stuff you wouldn't expect kids in a major US city to be short of. It comes down to apartment rents being high, leaving low income people with little money to buy anything else.
