Trump is about to make the pork industry responsible for inspecting itself.

This actually has the potential of turning me into a vegetarian.

I keep saying it's not the 1950's they want to take us back to, but the 1890's. In some of their cases, they would prefer the early 1800's.

Upton Sinclair' "The Jungle" was written in 1904 which, in part, led to the Meat Inspection Act.

ETA: Corrected Sinclair Lewis to Upton Sinclair. Brain fart.

UKIP continues to field candidates of the highest quality.

Remainers death penalty post 'repugnant'

Ms Nissanga, who is originally from Sri Lanka, has suggested in other posts that remain voters should be hanged, or attacked by gangs with "huge machetes". She has said that "Conservative and Labour traitors" should be "wiped out".

1829, Andrew Jackson, slavery was still a thing and the President openly sold cabinet positions.

Yes, slavery is the reason I said that some would prefer the early 1800's. I think that the majority of neocons would be fine with the 1890's in which we all live lives of wage slavery with no check upon corporate power but there is a definite group of people who would also prefer actual slavery. Thanks for the Andrew Jackson addition. I hadn't considered that facet.

This and the change to reduce sexism in the temple ceremony (which includes weddings) have some people hopeful. For those of us who have endured a metric fuckton of mistreatment and ostracism because of LDS bigotry, the reactions are more like anger and suspicion. I’m glad young people who are still trying to be active in the Church will be under a more tolerant system, but there’s a long, long way to go. In particular, there need to be campaigns against family ostracisms and “conversion therapy” before I’ll believe this goes beyond window dressing.

Now I've some mormon friends [there are a -lot- of them in the Sci Fi/Fantasy author community], this doesn't surprise me as much as it once would have.
When I was at BYU in the eighties I remember very good sci-fi conventions. They were a lifesaver for me, a welcome change from so much lockstep conformity. I credit fandom with keeping my imagination alive and even my dreams.

4x4 feet I assume? Freaking amateur. I'm tending a 300x400 patch of forest.
She is splitting her time between DC and NYC. That size patch in either place would be a bit expensive.

Two concepts that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately are guilt and responsibility.

When it comes to racism in America, I think that guilt and responsibility tend to be seen as more or less the same thing. But I’m beginning to understand how there’s a real difference.

As white people, are we guilty of the sins of our forefathers? No, I don’t think so.

But are we responsible for them? Yes, I believe we are.
Kyle's a white guy playing in the NBA for those unfamiliar.
