Why do they hate capitalism when it may affect those industries that pour large amounts of money into lobbying?

Months in jail and thousands of dollars in fines and legal fees—those are the consequences Alabamians and Arizonans could soon face for selling cell-cultured meat products that could cut into the profits of ranchers, farmers, and meatpackers in each state.

State legislators from Florida to Arizona are seeking to ban meat grown from animal cells in labs, citing a “war on our ranching” and a need to protect the agriculture industry from efforts to reduce the consumption of animal protein, thereby reducing the high volume of climate-warming methane emissions the sector emits.

Here's where things get good: Not only does Ken Buck's sudden resignation from the House leave House Republicans with an even slimmer majority, at least for now, it leaves his seat open to a special election to be held during Colorado's primary in June. Buck is in Colorado's 4th district - the same district Lauren Boebert is running in. She can't run in the special election because she already holds a seat in Colorado's 3rd district. She'll be running against a newly elected incumbent in November, and people generally don't vote against incumbents, especially when the person running against them is a carpetbagger.

Lauren Boebert is screwed, and not even in a way she enjoys!

I saw today a report on arte TV about a topic I hadn't had on the radar before and which left me completely baffled: Child marriages in America. This is one of the least things I had on mind that the vast majority of the states has in common with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

In 41 of the 50 states childhood marriage is legal; about 10 don't even have a minimum age, including California.

Nearly 300.000 minors under age 18 were married legally in the states from 2000 to 2018, of which 68% were females.

Wow... this just blew my mind completely.

She can run, but would have to give up her current seat in the House. Which would mean yet another special election to replace her.
Looks like she won't compete in the special, but still wants to eat her cake in the end.

FWIW, there have been attempts in a few states to ban child marriage legislatively, but you'll never believe* which party keeps shooting them down each time.

Underage marriages, priests, cops…. but but trans people!

A police officer took a teen for a rape kit. Then he assaulted her, too. Washington Post

A Washington Post investigation has found that over the past two decades, hundreds of police officers have preyed on children, while agencies across the country have failed to take steps to prevent these crimes.

At least 1,800 state and local police officers were charged with crimes involving child sexual abuse from 2005 through 2022, The Post found.

I've got a sneaking suspision... well more seriously though what completely left me shocked was that it is still legal in California, which to me always seemed like a Democrats fortress.

There's a large part of California that is pretty much West Oklahoma with water.

Once you get away from the coast it's a whole different state.
I remember that time a dam was about to burst above one of the Trumpiest districts in the country and the rest of red state America was cheering on for a dam break because all the libtards downstream deserved it.

Interesting development in the Hunter Biden backstory.

US firm that paid indicted FBI informant tied to Trump associates, records reveal
An American company that paid the now indicted FBI informant Alexander Smirnov in 2020 is connected to a UK company owned by Trump business associates in Dubai, according to business filings and court documents.

Smirnov is now accused of lying to the FBI about Hunter Biden and his father, President Joe Biden, alleging that they engaged in a bribery scheme with executives at the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. Smirnov’s accounts to the FBI, beginning in 2020, that federal prosecutors now say are fabrications, served as a major justification of the House impeachment investigation into the Bidens.
Back in 2020, Smirnov was paid $600,000 by a company called Economic Transformation Technologies (ETT), prosecutors said. That same year, Smirnov began lying to the FBI about the Bidens, according to the indictment.

ETT’s CEO is the American Christopher Condon, who is also one of three shareholders in ETT Investment Holding Limited in London. Other shareholders in the UK include the Pakistani American investor Shahal Khan and Farooq Arjomand, a former chairman and current board member of Damac Properties in Dubai who is also listed as an adviser on ETT’s American website.
