Even better, it is being used as a way to fund a rather repulsive hate group:

It seems to be bringing out the finest people:

Check out #fluTruxKlan for more fun.... Hearing that the confederate flag is flying in all its glory in Ottawa today, and folks are quick to note that the same people flying the confederate flag are the same people complaining about their lack of freedom as they drive across the country.

I'm surprised this protest grew as big as it has. We've had trucker protests in America many times before, including during Occupy Wall St, for example, but I don't think we've ever seen an American trucker protest get this malicious. They're literally blockading Ottowa.

I remember when indigenous people protested a pipeline in Canada, and for that, lots of Canadians wanted to have the military shoot them, with live munitions. Now, Ottowa is literally being blockaded and that's just free speech. Only white people get free speech. I'm not saying all Canadians are racist, but you know... it's a fucked up situation.

It's not a trucker protest though. It started out pretending to be one, and some protesters who are truckers are using their trucks to blockade roads and highways, but on the whole it's just an alt-right protest.

This so stupid and sickening. Like...ostentatious displays of conspicuous consumption by the obscenely wealthy are nothing new. The fact that mega-ultra-gonzo-yachts like this exist and have full-time crews and continuously expend resources and fuel year-round so that a rich douchbag can spend two spontaneous weekends a year on them has been true for quite a while. But it's like they're perpetually upping the ante. Lex Bezos over here gets to wave his money around and have a whole-ass bridge dismantled because he couldn't be bothered to commission his enormously compensatory dick-replacement at any of a couple hundred dick-replacement construction facilities anywhere in the world where it could actually get from the builder to the ocean without, you know, public infrastructure getting in the way.

So that's why people are speculating that the Republicans are terrified of Biden's SCOTUS nominee being a woman of color because she might turn the 13th Amendment against them.
As for the second article, "speculating" that JC means Jesus? Of course it does. That's the original blood libel. It may be that the early Christians felt they had to blame the Jews instead of the Romans so that they themselves didn't end up on the cross, and they probably couldn't conceive of the persecution their words would cause for centuries, but, damage done. And no surprise that people like the snowplow driver (whose name I first read as Klanman) are still being taught that.
This will surprise no one here (except possibly my block list); I'm just venting at the reporting. Are they that naive, or are they avoiding telling it like it is?

No doubt this will be seen as bad news for the Biden administration.

They could also have simply left off whatever parts are too high, and finished topping it off somewhere else. It could still all be by the same boatbuilder, just slightly delayed putting it on.

According to The Times,

Marcel Walravens, the council official responsible for the bridge, said it was not practical to partially finish Y721 in the shipyard before moving it to mount the three masts. “If you carry out a big job somewhere, you want all your tools in that place,” he said. “The municipality considers this a very important project.”

According to the NL Times article Dakota linked to, it's only very temporary

The municipality is still working out exactly when and how the bridge will be dismantled. "As the plans look now, the preparation will take about a week. There are a lot of cables on De Hef, and as soon as you remove the first one, it no longer works. After that week, we remove the middle part, and with a bit of luck, we will have it back a day later. After that it will take another week to put everything back in place," Walravens explained to Rijnmond.
and since Bezos is paying for the whole exercise (at least according to The Times, he is) I don't see it's a huge issue.

Yeah it's just a national monument having to be taken apart for two weeks because one man wants a boat, no big d.
I wonder how many people were employed building it, and for how long.

In the great scheme of bridge closures, it seems to me no big deal. Nothing like Hammersmith Bridge, which is (or was) actually a main river crossing for motor traffic.

Biden wants to rattle the sabre on gun control, and I think he's doing it because he has no new moves. He just repeats the same things he's been repeating for 50 years. I keep seeing more and more stories about gun control, at least, and the talking points seem like they were plucked from the 1970s. They say Biden wants gun control because people are saying he's soft on crime, which is dumb. He's clearly soft on everything, because he's soft in the head, but 'soft on crime' is not something anybody says, post-BLM, unless you are a nazi. Biden wants to use a few dead NYPD cops as pretense for banning guns more, which is stupid. The massive paramilitary parades in NYC over a couple dead cops is essentially the same as military parades in Russia and North Korea. Juxtaposing the two issues of gun control and crime like this, without discussing police brutality, is stupid. The cops are WHY we need guns! They are trigger happy murderers. The British standing army inspired the 2nd amendment, while doing the same job American cops are doing, and I would argue the fucking red coats did a better job than the NYPD.

The first inkling I had that something is changing in the national conversation regarding guns was when I saw this CBS This Morning segment. They interviewed some big wig federal prosecutor and an ATF asshole. They were both so aggressive in the interview, it was hard to watch. Just cringe the whole time. Here's the segment, if you want to see it. The way they answer the questions, they're both poster children for police aggression. This kind of thing is why people need media training.

Untrue. There were not LOTS of Canadians wanting them shot, in reference to the pipeline comments.
OttAwa is currently under assail by apparent rabble rousers and extremists via guise of a peaceful protest. No one, I repeat, no one, is advocating for groups to be dealt with by military might. If a handful of violent loudmouth troublemakers were saying such things during any dispute, more Canadians were loudly condemning this type of rhetoric because it is NOT who we are as a nation.

Kindly state the correct facts and leave this kind of misinformation to the Misinformation specialists aka far right conspiracy generators.

Sorry, I don't really know what it's like in Canada. I've only been there once before, for a weekend, at Niagra Falls, 20 years ago, LOL. I'm just writing about what I see in our engagement-driven American press ('engagement' is an American term of art that means "stuff that pisses you off").

The first time I canceled my NYTimes subscription was in the 1980s. I was a young (naive) adult, living in New York City, and I felt ever so sophisticated reading the Times every morning. One particular series of articles, however, finally crystallized for me the perspective of the paper. During a commuter train strike, they reported breathlessly on the harrowing experience of commuters forced to use public transport and even walk through poor neighborhoods. Hmm, kinda like my daily experience, which I had never considered to be unduly terrifying. I switched over to the Daily News, because I finally realized the Times did not consider me to be part of their readership.

Decades later, long after I'd moved away from the city, I took out an online subscription because there were so many Times articles of depth and interest. I still didn't trust them completely, and inevitably they would publish something that set me screaming and once again I would cancel. A year or two would pass by and I'd renew again, then leave. I think I'm gone for good this time around. I can't even remember the specific article that set me off, but it doesn't really matter. As that tweet makes clear, they are a copaganda outlet for the ruling elite, and I just can't stomach their view of the world.

I'm not sure the Washington Post is that much better, but for some reason I've found it palatable and less snotty.
