Cindy McCain's heroic child-trafficking intervention turns out to be BS

McCain, widow of the late Republican Sen. John McCain and an anti-trafficking activist, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday that she witnessed a child being trafficked at the Phoenix airport last week.

“I came in from a trip I’d been on and I spotted — it looked odd — it was a woman of a different ethnicity than the child, this little toddler she had, and something didn’t click with me,” McCain said in the interview. “I went over to the police and told them what I saw, and they went over and questioned her, and, by God, she was trafficking that kid.”

The woman, McCain added, was “waiting for the guy who bought the child to get off an airplane.”

Phoenix police refuted McCain’s allegation on Wednesday. Sgt. Armando Carbajal told KTAR that officers had conducted a welfare check on a child at the airport at McCain’s request but had found “no evidence of criminal conduct or child endangerment.”
McCain saying the woman being a different ethnicity from her child was suspicious is just hilariously ironic considering that Cindy McCain herself had adopted a young girl from Bangladesh:

I admit I go to a few chain stores of certain kinds, rather than local "mom & pop" versions of those places. I'm conscious of the reason why people try to advocate shopping "locally", and I agree with the reason and when I first moved down here I really tried my best to do that. But I've found out that, at least where I live, sometimes the local option is politically impossible for me.

Case in point: up until today I've always tried to go a local grocery chain, called Mac's Fresh Market, rather than Kroger (which is also in the area), and certainly rather than Walmart. Mac's weekly flyer tends to have pretty good sales in it, and I've never had a problem ignoring the glib one-liner-of-the-week reminding you to love God that always appears on the front page near the address information - I mean I live in deep-south WASPland and that kind of thing is just hard to avoid down here no matter where you go.

But then this week's flyer comes in the mail and it's like

So yeah up yours, Mac's; buying groceries at the national chain now.

I dont remember who it was exactly but I remember a comedian suggesting that politicians should have to wear the logos of the corporations that finance them, the same way racing drivers do. At least then we'd all know who'd bought them.

Landing a Specials gig from a viral photo

People may remember Saffiah Khan, if not by name, as the woman who faced down an EDL activist on a demonstration a couple of years ago.

It is less than two years since Saffiyah Khan's calm smile, inches from the face of an English Defence League activist, made global headlines. But since then, she has gone through a frenzy of activity that has taken in everything from the catwalk, to making a film with the BBC, to performing with ska revivalists, The Specials.

When the 20-year-old was photographed defending a woman at a protest outside Birmingham Library on 8 April 2017, she was moments away from going viral.

That photograph of her coolly going toe-to-toe with a protester was seen by thousands and described in The Guardian as a symbol of the city "standing up to the far-right group".

But perhaps what is less known about that image is that from a different angle Khan can be clearly seen wearing a Specials T-shirt. Within hours the band had offered her tickets to one of their gigs.

But that has become a distant footnote to the story. She now appears on The Specials' new album, Encore, with Ten Commandments - a personal riposte she penned based on a track by one of the forefathers of ska, Prince Buster.

Bet she gets assassinated.:voodoo:
I believe the last successful assassination of a US congressperson was Leo Ryan, who was killed in 1978 at the beginning of the Jonestown massacre.

That doesn't always have to be true thought. The US Air Force was a regular consultant for Stargate SG1, but the show had its share of villains in uniform. There was even an arc with this whole secret rogue AF department trying to steal alien tech. And a congressman who wanted to shut down the whole Stargate program because he thought it was satanic.

Man buys hate group's domain name, turns it into furry porn site

The Wolves of Odin is a far-right Canadian group that peddles Islamophobic immigration theories. Its members were caught earlier this year harassing Muslims and spying on the country’s oldest mosque.

So when Canadian resident Brady Grumpelt realized WolvesOfOdin.com didn’t have a Canadian web address with the related .ca suffix, he bought WolvesOfOdin.ca and turned it into a gay site with erotic images of furries.

Furries are people who feel attracted to people wearing animal mascot costumes or drawings of anthropomorphized creatures (anthros). While they’re not attracted to actual animals, sometimes their attraction to anthros is playfully platonic. Other times it’s intensely erotic.

In Grumpelt’s case, he filled WolvesOfOdin.ca with images of male-wolves with names like “Chocolate_Rain” and “Bigger_Woofer” posing seductively in tight shorts. Some furries worry that his site will stigmatize their kink, but Grumpelt says he meant no offense and wanted only to mock the Wolves of Odin.
