According to a new statistical model by The Economist and YouGov, the strongest indicator of an American voter's propenstity to vote Republican or Democrat is religion, not race: How to forecast an American’s vote

How to forecast an American’s vote

There's a fun interactive tool to "Build an American voter" and see how changing the variables affects his or her likelihood to vote one way or the other.

Gunman kills 2, wounds 6 at Florida yoga studio

The suspect also died of a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound, DeLeo said. Police know his name but aren't releasing any details yet about the shooter, he said.
One other person was pistol-whipped.

The shooting occurred at Hot Yoga Tallahassee, according to the police department's Facebook page.

There were indications people fought the gunman and some tried to save others, the chief said.

Responding officers arrived in about three minutes and found the gunman already dead.

The six gunshot victims were taken to hospitals. Two people died at the hospital and the other four are in critical condition, DeLeo said.

An Idaho school district is apologizing after one elementary school's faculty decided to dress up as "Trump's wall" and Mexican stereotypes for Halloween.

Pictures, which were posted on the Middleton School District Facebook page but have since been deleted, showed the group dressed up as a wall with the phrase "Make America Great Again" on it. Another group in a second picture was dressed up with sombreros, carrying maracas and wearing fake black mustaches, which some parents called racist.

Another now-deleted picture from the school's Facebook page showed staff members dressed in sombreros with maracas.
The pictures have now been replaced with an apology video from district Superintendent Josh Middleton, who called the costumes "clearly insensitive and inappropriate."

"We are better than this, we embrace all students who have a responsibility to teach and reach all students," he said.

There was probably no malicious intent, he said, just poor judgment -- adding that the district will be conducting an investigation.

"We now have to own those decisions," he said. "I'd just again want to share what's going on and express my sincerest and deepest apologies to our families, to our patrons."
The photos are at the link. It's pretty bad.

...and another one of us has took a direct hit from an open bottle of Sunny Delight.
This definitely needs to be investigated as a possible chemical attack; I've never been able to determine exactly what the heck Sunny Delight is actually made of.

When I was little, there was a relentless TV ad campaign to make kids think "Sunny D" was "cooler" than regular orange juice. For most kids I knew this illusion lasted exactly long enough for them to taste it for the first time.
