Yeah, the hype is real for sure. And that for a game which will probably be released on console first in 13+x months, and 1/2 year later for Windows.
Two years last time. 2013 for consoles, 2015 for pc. I just reached a milestone in Online. I had stopped playing it somewhere in 2021, but earlier this year had my account hacked. I only noticed it because Social Club sent me an email about having changed my username. I knew I had not, so of course immediately went in to find my entire account sitting at $0 alongside missing other games like RDR2 and so on. After reinstalling the game, I could not even sign into it because Steam said it was registered to a different email. After much back and forth with Rockstar support, proving who I was, using my save files and such I got it back. The person didn't seem to have done much with it, other than gamble millions at the casino and sold a number of my vehicles.
Anyhow, I instituted 2FA and have been okay since. Apparently this particular thing is/was very common. They were taking over accounts that did not have 2FA. Some trickery in email address changing. If you have an acct that doesn't have 2FA, at risk.
In any event, as long as I had it installed, I went back in to play some of the DLCs that had come out since. I now have retired with exactly $1,234,567,890.
(Yes, when I got close to having that exact number, I ddi some buying to get it just right) despite there being a new DLC releasing tomorrow.
Bottom line, if they handle security as badly as they did with GTA Online, particularly with PC, I am not sure I want to even touch it. It's really bad now, worse than ever. They pretty much admitted defeat or just don't care in making it so you can do business stuff in an invite only lobby, which is what most prefer to do. That has left public lobbies with majority modders. These fucks take over entire lobbies with mod menus that are very powerful. It has things like tp'ing everyone in the lobby into one spot and killing them all over and over again, simultaneously. The menus are very powerful in what they can do now and Rockstar does nada. They also have a monthly fee now called GTA+ for PS5/XBox only. A subscription fee for a 10 year old game, lol. This is after they had many people re-buy the game 3 times on console?
So, yeah...the hype train is on for the 6th one, but I'm not all that hyped. Sure, I will play single player but might wait awhile, even after it finally comes to pc depending upon what kind of microtransaction fuckery is involved and there will be some.
It does look very cool, though. I admit Vice City was one of my favs and a return there is right up my alley. The graphics look pretty darn sweet and hey, first female protagonist, even if she shares the role, is also cool.
