Unity CEO John Riccitielo is out

Riccitiello, who has been running Unity for nine years, will also step down as chairman and is leaving the board, the company said Monday.

James Whitehurst, former CEO of Red Hat, will become Unity’s interim CEO. Sequoia Capital’s Roelof Botha, the lead independent director of Unity’s Board, will become the company’s chairman.

How do educated corporate types not understand that one person being CEO, President, and Chairman of the Board is a really really really bad idea always in every possible scenario? Always. We learned that in Management 101 which, admittedly, was a stupid class but it did teach that kernel of wisdom.

i think it's do-able for smaller companies....(definitely not small) but you have to put in an effort to understand your company from top to bottom, able to look at it objectively.. when to ask for opinions.... know your employees what they do and your consumers needs and wants.. know when to take criticism and when to adjust...or step out of the way. it's allot of work for one person to do all this data collection and stats ( which is why you usually have a board in the first place, no?) allot of CEOs these days seem to have zero clue whats happening inside their own company... they just look at numbers... Going down = bad.. going up =good. Amazing with all this technology yet they don't even know whats happening down below...

Unity stalled... market saturated... no new inventions... profits down... instead of leading and trying to find new direction... tried to makeup for it without consulting and pushed it on to consumer and it backfired hard. Mind you he still helped the company grow into the $17 billion dollar business... but maybe he lost his vision... a fresh pair of eyes might help?
