You mean American egg handball when you talk about football?

/me runs fast, like the fastest quarterbacks.
Meanwhile, Dutch cyclists are still trying to figure out how to deal with Australian magpies:

"...Somehow wins the world title!" Not somehow, the video showed "how" and the rattle-brained announcer saw it. Oy.
The secret is apparently crossing the finish line before the other racers. No one else seems to have thought of doing that.

The "somehow" part is that she made it into the final group, and she made an attack from an shocking long distance. The Dutch team keeps bringing amazing teams to these events but just have the worst of luck or succumb to their own arrogance (see the women's olympic road race in Japan). For example, one of their key men's riders, Mathieu van der Poel, was in a hotel with kids keeping the team up the night before the race and ended up in an Australian police station. The Dutch mixed team time trial team ended up losing two of their key riders during the race, and van Vleuten crashed and broke her elbow within 50 meters of the start of her part in that event. The road victory by van Vleuten was amazing because the course had some repeated steep sections, and she was not able to stand due to her broken elbow. She is known for her distinct out of the saddle climbing style:

The whole situation at the World Championships was so crazy I wanted to poke a little fun at Sid but realized it so bizarre it would only be rubbing salt in the wound. van Vleuten will be retiring after next year, and it will be fun to watch her spend her final year in the peleton with the rainbow jersey. She is a generational rider and deserves no less. I find the repeated dominance of the Dutch women throughout the year a little frustrating. At the same time though, each of their individual riders are amazing and come off as decent people who are fun to watch and cheer for.

Another view from Wollongon:

Watching the end of the women's road race, it was another frustrating event for Kasia Niewiadoma. She was perfectly positioned, but was in a group with two great sprinters. She did not have much of a chance and would have been better to try and follow van Vleuten but was boxed in. I would love to see her finally get a big win when she has been so close many times.

Annemiek van Vleuten is 'hors categorie' in women cycling. Almost 40 years old and still growing strong.
I already know who will be the women's sports person of the year 2022 in NL.
Way to go.

At the end of this walleye fishing tournament in Cleveland yesterday, this team of anglers - who had moments earlier won the weigh-in, and therefore presumably the tournament - were discovered to have cheated, and the entire field of competitors just instantly unloads all over them. Well, all over one of them - the other seemed to get conveniently lost as soon once it started becoming clear their fish were going to be checked right there.

These two cheaters have apparently won over a million dollars across the last several years of fishing tournaments, and it sounds like suspicion has been growing for a long time.

Well, yesterday was one of the best baseball days I've ever seen. Regardless of whether or not your favored team won, the games were exciting (yes even the 18 inning marathon one). I don't know if I've ever actually sat and watched four games in a row like that before.

Holy cow.
Is that a former pro?
If not, he should have been one.

Some guy named Mitchell Muehl. If was a pro, none of his "about" sections mention, well, anything. He's on Youtube, tiktok, twitter, etc.

I've watched so many lately and I can't remember the dates, but I have had such a great time watching two in particular...One was Goose Pays A Visit game....and then there was the Drone Pays A Visit and It Rained a Lot game. I do love baseball and I love games that are crazy. World Series starts tomorrow I will be glued to my screen..and I hope there are no 18 innings games. I missed that one, heard about it, glad I missed it, I'd have fallen asleep way early on. Anyway....Yay Baseball!
