The problem I had with The Marvels is that they were a good team, had chemistry, but they were up against the most bland villain imaginable. The antagonist was an afterthought. While cast dynamics are important, they are not a substitute for story. And much like the last Ant Man, it was a film about putting pieces in place for later films. All of that to get us an X-Men blip. At least it wasn't setting up a Big Bad who just got fired. Those films are in Thor 2 territory, with a few interesting parts in service of a longer story but no pay-off of their own. I thought the same of Black Panther 2. Marvel needs to get back to telling connected stories instead of one storyline sprinkled across a half dozen movies.

I keep forgetting Namor was even in it.

He was literally the main villain and all over that movie.

I have a friend who is gaga over it, and wants me to watch so we can talk about it. So I've tried to watch Bridgerton. I really have. But...I just don't get it. Maybe I have a taste-block on Regency-era product.

It’s like cotton candy regency. Watched all 4 episodes of the half-season (what’s up with that?) and it wasn’t as good as the first two, but enjoyable. I, of course, was rooting for the “wrong“guy.

I did love the protagonists and their chemistry in The Marvels! The whole thing with the Kree homeworld seemed like a hot mess, really poorly developed, and then trivially 'solved' in moments.

The Kree are a hot mess. It is the only way to portray them. Even with a guiding “intelligence” they’re still scrambled eggs thrown on the floor and kicked across the room.

Is anyone else watching 'Outer Range'? Season 2 just came out.

It's kind of like an Netflix's "Dark" series. Small 'everybody knows everybody' town. Interesting characters with their complicated relationships and struggles, affected by a seemingly impossible, mysterious and poorly understood phenomenon.

I'm a few episodes in, and still can't really tell where it's going to go next.

I think in Canada, it’s with Telus.
I don’t hate the idea of bundles, but I‘m not going to change my mobile service (which I love) for Telus just to be able to save a few bucks, get ads, and be locked in a contract.

Eventually, I suppose, we won’t really have a choice.

Yeah, fabulous bargain, $15/mo to be locked in to three streaming channels, with ads, that I'm not that interested in to begin with. Frankly, I'd bail out of Comcast, too, if it were only me, but Mrs. Beebo is a news & sports junkie.

We spent the first year of my retirement bingeing our way through several concurrent ad-free streaming subscriptions, cost be damned. It was glorious! But we've plundered the archives of what we wanted to watch, so now I'm letting each subscription expire.

From this point on, no more annual subs, and no more concurrent subs. One streaming channel at a time, on a monthly basis. Work through the inventory, then cancel.

I have been watching Star Trek Strange New Worlds. And he seems like a fine enough actor, but the guy playing James Kirk, does not at all "feel like" Kirk. Which is really annoying.

He doesn't look at all like Shatner, he doesn't sound like Shatner, he doesn't... have the... same speech patterns as Shatner. He doesn't even have any of the same sort of mannerisms as Shatner.

Like, I don't get why they picked this guy to play Kirk. Hell, Pike, feels more like Kirk.

Morgan Spurlock, documentary filmmaker of 'Super Size Me', dies at 53

Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock has died. He was best known for Super Size Me, an inventive 2004 documentary about the fast food industry for which he consumed only McDonald’s fast food for a month. The film was a massive success and would earn more than $20 million in the global box office.

Spurlock died Thursday, May 23, in New York of complications from cancer, according to a statement sent by David Magdael, a publicist. He was 53 years old.

I can explain...

OG Kirk's identity is corrupted by exposure to both regular and reversed polarity tachyons. His existence has remarkably erratic wave of both compressed and stretched time, which to everyone else in his timestream just seems like random rapid and slow speech. And, due to the paradoxical nature of time travel, the effects of tachyon poisoning can manifest both before -and- after a person engages in unshielded time travel.

When temporal stresses reach a critical point, a continuity rupture happens and affected entities bifurcate into new entities. Due to temporal upstream tech leakage, time travel for the bifurcated alternate selves is subject to far less tachyon saturation. So you see the strange speech patterns less often. Even among those retconned branches that exist -before- the original.

It's not limited to people, the Enterprise NCC-1701's bridge itself is affected, if you listen carefully to the pings and beeps, there's a distinct warble due to time tension/compression. Co-temporal versions of the bridge look much different due to temporal upstream tech-leakage.

See? It's all so simple.

I was not expecting it, but I'm 2 episodes in on Dead Boy Detectives, and having a ball. I won't spoil anything, but I do love all of the actors in the show so far, and the humor actually is sometimes laugh-out funny.

I didn't realize how much I needed foul mouthed sprites in my entertainment. They're in the second episode, but I'm hoping they stick around and toss off insults at the other characters from time to time.
