I saw mention of the production plans a few days back but decided not to post about it because it's in the early stages, so who knows what will come of it. But then Warner Brothers decided to go all Sauron on some fan-made short.

Warner Bros. has taken down a 15-year-old fan film of The Lord of the Rings after announcing a new movie with the same title slated for release in 2026. On May 9, CEO David Zaslav announced a new movie in the fantasy franchise titled The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which will see Andy Serkis in the titular role as well as directing. Peter Jackson will also be returning as a producer, though no other information about the movie has been released.

However, Independent Online Cinema (via IGN), a YouTube channel which hosts a variety of independent and fanmade films, has had a 15-year-old fan film of the same title taken down ahead of The Hunt for Gollum's release. The short film with the same title as Warner Bros.' upcoming movie was removed via copyright notice overnight. Released on the platform in 2009, the movie amassed 13.6 million views before it was struck down.
Here's a trailer for the short WB hasn't seemed to notice yet:

EDIT FROM THE FUTURE: I didn't see at the time that WB backed down on their take down efforts of the fan film not long after.

I pretty much gave up on him after Sucker Punch
I gave up on him with that, too, and I didn't even connect him witih other films. God what an awful POS film.

Orphan Black fans have something new to keep their interest.

I'll probably be missing out on it, as I don't need the costs of yet another streaming service (AMC+ ??). But the trailer makes it look interesting, it's got Krysten Ritter in it who I love, and it's set in the future (well, 2052)!

More of the punching yourself in the face effect for the benefit to pay corporations to just watch stuff online.

In summary, Peacock and Crunchyroll are bumping prices, Netflix is cutting their UK/Canadian lowest cost ad-free plan (while dropping plan subscribers to their lowest ad-based plan), and Fubo has dropped almost 20 channels. Nothing too horrible.

Meanwhile, drip drip drip.

Disney+ is expected to launch an updated service bundle which will include Disney, Hulu and Max. No word on pricing or when it will hit for now.

Um, OK?

Not sure why they went with that title. It's supposedly based on Sisterhood of Dune, which is one of the (imo) awful follow-up books from Frank Herbert's son and Kevin Anderson. Maybe its style will work well for adaptation to a mini-series. We'll see.

Is that the one that tells the origins of the Boni Maroni Sisterhood and how the Missionaria Phoni-Balonica set up the myths about the Leader from Beyond who would bring victory and green to Arruckus? Aunt Lydia leading the Sisterhood? Mark Strong as the Corrino emperor?

Why didn't they just adapt a real dune novel, Children, God Emperor, Heretics or Chapterhouse. Since they take place in the future but they still need a same-age Duncan Idaho because of his gholas

Is that English?

Heretics and Chapterhouse would have been good choices if they're really on a Bene Gesserit bender. But maybe they have more of an interest in an origin story.

Rotten Tomatoes has a critics rating of 11% for 'Madam Web'. And I'm kind of surprised it isn't lower.

I don't know if it's a victim of the writer's strike or what... but between this, 'The Marvels' and 'Echo' I'm starting to think that maybe the business plan is "We'll make more by making crap and profiting off misogynists hate-watching it to have something to complain about, than we would by making it good and trying to build an appreciative audience"

-terrible- lines of dialog. bad pacing. massive plot hole. over-dubbing in post while the character's back is to the camera because (obviously) they 'changed a lot of stuff' and didn't bother with reshoots.

I can't believe they released this movie in this condition. Whomever is responsible for it being as bad as it is.. should be banned from the industry for life. Along with whomever hired them to do the job.

The studio that brought us Morbius. Sony is trying to make the Spiderverse-without-Spiderman work. Kraven is up next, apparently with his entire background removed. They need to make a deal with Marvel\Disney for their live action and stick to the very successful animated Spiderverse.

Aaron Taylor Johnson was fun in kick-ass and bullet train, and I wish they kept him on as Quicksilver in the MCU... but the only things that -might- get me to given in and watch 'Kraven' are his abs. It looks like a gratuitous angry gore fest, and I have a weird personal dislike of Russell Crowe that I've never really understood, and he kind of sours stuff for me.

I have not watched Madam Web yet. Echo was, alright, but didn't really feel like it needed to exist. Like, why do we need to keep doing a bazillion new heromorigin stories? For all these extremely minorities heroes. Especially when we have like, Shang Chi out there, dying of old age before he ever returns.

I wanted to like the Marvels, but it just felt so... I don't know. Kind of pointless I guess. I like Carol a lot, I like Kamala a lot. (Kind of indifferent on the other outside of Nextwave). But the movie was kind of too sloppy. They should have just done a flashback movie to tell some of what Captain Marvel was doing during the time between the 90s and now. I saw a good description for it, pulled from some review.

They did a prequel with Captain Marvel and a Sequel with The Marvels, but for got to do the main movie.
