Sam Neill shares sad cancer update after chemotherapy treatment fails
Film icon Sam Neill has delivered a heartbreaking update about his cancer treatment.

The 76-year-old revealed that he was battling rare blood cancer, angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma, earlier this year.

Speaking to Australian Story Neill said that after chemotherapy failed to work on him his doctor switched him to an anti-cancer drug which has put him in remission for more than 12 months.
But tragically, Neill shared that the drug will stop working eventually.

“I’m prepared for that,” Neill said.

He told the program that while dying would be “annoying” he’s not “remotely afraid” of it.
Despite this, Neill says retirement is completely out of the question. ✊

I have been watching Buffy the Vampire slayer lately, which I have never watched before, despite basically being in the target demo in almost every way when it was originally airing. I think part of that is that I just, have never been into anything "horror". Its not that I don't like it, it just doesn't really do it for me. Vampires and Zombies etc are just kind of boring.

Anyway, I am liking it so far. I have already picked up some of what happens from various discussions etc over the past many years, so I know some of what is to come. The show gives me Charmed vibes, excpet everything is dark and night time.

I find it kind of amusing and sad how Xander is basically the "gay best friend" despite not being gay and basically constantly confessing how much he loves Buffy.

There was an episode where a bunch of students ate the principle. Like, literally ate him, dead and gone, but its all cool I guess because they were posessed by Hyena Spirits.

Also, you know Cordelia will become important because she is in the credits. Even Angel isn't in the credits.

Speaking of Angel, he gives me so many Tuxedo Mask vibes. I mean, that's basically his character, but its funny and makes me want to watch Sailor Moon. I keep waiting for him to show up randomly and then leave and someone says "but you didn't do anything."

I had a close friend at work years ago that was really into that show. It sounds good but I've never watched it except an episode or two.

Buffy does have a Charmed vibe in that it freely mixes mythological and fantasy universes without being too serious about it. There are a few, very few, really emotional episodes but most of it is lighthearted fun if you don't feel sorry for the creatures they destroy because they're "evolz." Willow is my favourite character, too whiney at (most of the) times, but creative and witchy and makes all the right mistakes that somehow come together in the end.

Such a strange last couple of movies.

Celine and Julie go Boating - 1974
These two meet up, somewhat unclearly. They end up in a house where it seems they are watching a movie drama of the other members of the house. They seem to be invisible as though they are watching scenes on a melodrama. A girl is in trouble.

Do you ever have a feeling if you just watched a particular 10 minutes here and there more carefully the movie would make a lot more sense? In this 3 1/2 hour movie I felt that way. There were so many great scenes that just screamed this is a great movie but I missed elements. Maybe I will watch it again some day.

Clean, Shaven - 1994
A man gets released from the hospital. He is schizophrenic. He clearly is nowhere near free of his problems. He is in search of his daughter. I've known a couple of people with schizophrenia and somewhat relate. This is not a happy movie but is quite an impressive and heart felt representation of the issue.

Found out not long ago that Dolly Parton was a secret producer for the show. She co-owned a production company called Sandollar Productions.

Just finished the first episode of Drops of Gold, on AppleTV. I went into it blind. It came out earlier this year, but I’d not heard of it. It has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes(?) It’s in English, French, and Japanese, and loosely based on a popular Manga. My next binge, (after Slow Horses which was really good).

I am now early into Season 2 of Buffy. The show is definitely already showing the common "Season 2 Buff" you see on a lot of shows. Where "ok, this was popular, so have double your budget."

Also, in general, the weirdest aspect of the series so far is by far, the technology. CRT monitors, they make Willow use the "mysterious internet". Soooo many times there is trouble, and to warn someone, they have to GO TO THE OTHER PERSON AND HOPE THEYBFIND THEM! You know, because there are no Cell Phones to just, text or call about trouble.

There has been one Cell phone so far in the emtire series, Cordelia pulls one out early on in The Bronze (The club in the show) and it even has a puttle pull up antenna. Its just so weird.

They reference tech changes later in the series.

This trope is also referenced in the ttrpg “Cthulhu Now“, where the most prized equipment of Cthulhu Now Investigators are their cell phones.

Festival - released in 1967. Footage from the Newport Folk Festival, 1963 - 1965.

This is the first I have heard of this movie and it is phenomenal. Some of the most famous musicians include Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Judy Collins, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Peter Paul and Mary and so many, many more. Here is the listing. List of musicians Click through for just a few seconds and if you are inclined towards this sort of music you will be blown away.

It is important to turn on closed captions because that is the way to know who is playing or talking. I sure don't know what most people look like but I know their music.

Some artists I am not so familiar with but should be such as Odetta. Oh my! Then I hear a band playing where I don't know what they look like or the song but say, that has to be Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

The film is mostly the musicians performing but interspersed are thoughts about the music and meaning such as these from Sun House about the real meaning of the blues.

Now the blues, like I try to explain all the time, the real old blues, me and the reverend were talking about that this morning, he knows that too. The real old blues don't call for no jumping. You go to jumping, that aint the blues. They can name it the blues but it aint the blues. The blues is just by itself. That's the blues. When you got lonesome and worried, don't know what to do. Thinking about your loved ones, and people that you want to be nice to you. You've been nice to them but they aint deceived by them. Now you got the blues on them. You don't know what to do. You want to see them, wonder where they're at, want to know where they're going. Wonder why they deceived me. I trusted them with everything I had. I done everything I turned my heart to them, with faith and belief in them, and then they got up and deceived me. Now you don't know whether to cut their throat or to cry again. And that the Blues, B L U S E.
I am no professional writer and feel like I am not giving this movie justice, just hoping this gives you an incentive to watch this if you are into this sort of movie. If this movie was hours long I would like that. It is just an hour and 38 minutes but such a joy.

In the short 27 minute film, Flores - 2017 hydrangeas have invaded the Azore Islands driving out all the usual means of survival. Only a few people remain. Lovely purple throughout.

By the time the new season of Young Sheldon can finally start, it will run into the start of The Big Bang.
