Blerf. Posting while uncaffeinated. I can't effectively articulate where those thoughts/generalizations were going, or find the examples that gave rise to them in the first place. Please disregard.

Comedians can often be rather disturbing when off stage. It really is not limited to Chevy -- he just seems to often win the prize for "most obnoxious," but the strangeness can take many forms. I met Robin Williams backstage at a comedy club a little while before he went supernova with Mork. I think this was before he got deep into the Peruvian marching powder, but he was still just as hyper as you saw him on stage. It was a lot to take in at close range -- and it never stopped, so far as anyone could tell. I wanted just to shake him by the shoulders and say, "Settle down, man! You're okay! Just breathe!" It was like he was under some strange spell making him dance the funny dance.

Paul Reubens went through a period where you didn't meet Paul, you only met Pee Wee.

Go to any comedy club and stand at the back -- you'll find the other comics on the bill watching whomever is on stage. They'll almost never laugh. Instead, they will nod and maybe say, "Oh, that's funny." I've done it myself.

I suspect it is much the same with Chase -- he probably feels like he dares not turn off the irreverence that made him funny, and he doesn't know any other way to relate to people. I'd bet he really did think it was just fine to drop the N bomb with someone in the Community cast because he had, long ago, used it in a sketch with Richard Pryor. Never mind that the sketch in question was 50 frickin' years ago, or that it was a sketch, ffs, or that Richard's been gone for 20 years. Since I have the luxury of being approximately one large continent away from Chase and am no longer in the show biz, I can almost feel for the poor bastard. Almost.

I have trid watching Landman recently and I feel like in almost any other real world climate I could push aside how unlikeable every character is and kind of enjoy it but good god I cannot handle how much it feels like Big Oil propaganda. I have heard half the talking points argued by Conservatives on various issues, not just oil, elsewhere, often Facebook.

There was a scene in like, Episode 4 or so, of these oil exects at a board meeting and one seems like he has a concience about something terrible and the higher up goes on some speal about how he doesn't care about what the people use the oil for so lomg as it stays around $78/barrel, and its like, fuck you don't care, the barrel price is entirely dependant on people using that oil and these companies lobby and push for wars for their prices.

They also pushed all this anti Wind Turbine nonsense in another episode. Like how much energy and oil it takes to transport them blah blah. Then later an oil rig gets dismantled so they can haul in a bunch of pipe to replace the line and its just like "oh look at all the oil and blah blah it takes to do oil rigs too."
