Elmo is so rich he won't be broke anytime soon but with all his bad decisions he stands to lose a lot of money.

The very wealthy don't spend their wealth, but they do put it at risk.

When Suckerburg bought his yacht, he didn't go down to the yacht store and write a check from his checking account -- nor even his savings account. He borrowed against his Facebook stock. He got a really, really good rate because the loan is guaranteed with bona fide collateral. Then, he either pays off the loan out of current income or, more likely, leases the yacht out when he is not using it and pays off the loan with the lease income. He gets an interest deduction -- because "he" is really a corporation that can deduct almost everything -- and he gets a snazzy yacht to play with.

All that is lovely (from the Suckerberg perspective, anyway) unless the Facebook stock takes a nosedive, like certain electric car companies have recently. Then, the banks get nervous and want some more collateral or even, OMG, cash. Get enough of that going on with big enough numbers, and the whole house of cards can come down fast.

What I'm saying is Elmo isn't necessarily bankruptcy-proof, even though he has a metric f*ck tonne of net worth.

Well, it looks like the Air Force has found an excellent reason to spend money on Cybertrucks.

The U.S. Air Force is looking to buy two Tesla Cybertrucks for use as targets for precision munitions during testing and training. The service says it needs these vehicles for this purpose specifically because of the prospect of unspecified adversaries driving around in them in the future.

The Cybertrucks are among 33 target vehicles the Air Force Test Center (AFTC) is looking to acquire and have delivered to the White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) in New Mexico, according to contracting documents recently posted online.

I like this suggested augmentation to the Air Force's purchase.

It's been a handful of weeks since the Tesla Diner opened, and they're already culling the menu.

In classic diner fashion, the restaurant offered a robust menu when it first opened, but it is down to just five sandwiches, two sides, two types of pie, shakes, and drinks. Gone are the market salad, club sandwich, hash brown bites, biscuits and gravy, and chocolate chip cookies—along with the veggie patty option for burgers. Breakfast items have gone from being available all day long to only during the morning hours. Even the Shirley Temple and Creamsicle fountain drinks have been removed.

Perhaps most devastating to Musk is the removal of the “Epic Bacon,” a $12 side that offers four strips of maple-glazed bacon (that turned out to be significantly less epic in person). You can still get the regular kind, per Eater, but only as an add-on topping for sandwiches, not as a standalone side. Musk apparently insisted that every dish on the menu be “epic,” a meaningless benchmark that offers zero guidance. Based on the cutback, it seems like not many cleared the bar.
Apparently this was done because the place is wildly "successful."

The diner’s chef, Eric Greenspan, told Eater that the cutbacks were the result of “unprecedented demand” that required the menu to be scaled back. And there has been lots of attention on the place. 404 Media reported that the diner has been chaotic and subject to heavy traffic. A reporter from Autoweek said he had to wait in line for two hours to place an order. No one is having a good time except for Musk, who just gets to tweet about the thing without having to actually be involved in the hell that is running a restaurant.

Maybe twice as busy as two of these, but only while it's still new - and it takes up much, much more space.

I'm really baffled to see Tesla's stock is still so overvalued... Because who's going to be buying his shitty cars? A P/E of 191 is hard to justify even if they had a huge, vibrant customer base. But that idiot has pissed off everyone except for his dumb cult of investors who keep buying his stock.

It's not completely insane. Maybe 86% insane ....

Tesla seems to be transitioning to being a battery maker -- sort of the complete opposite end of the business cycle from "sexy, cutting-edge car company." In the past, they have also partnered with other EV makers; Toyota and Mercedes, though those partnerships seem to have ended now.

The Vegas Loop was Elon's very first major announced Hyperloop project, back when he tried to make Hyperloop a thing, where giant pods carrying dozens of passengers zipped around in tunnels underneath the entire Las Vegas Strip like a bad sci-fi movie. Unfortunately during planning and construction it quickly became clear they were unable to build a working Hyperloop, so it became just a bunch of Teslas self-driving around in tunnels. But since Tesla's self-driving barely functions above ground and absolutely refuses to work inside the tunnels, it became a bunch of people driving Teslas around in tunnels, between two stops. And one of the stops was in an above-ground parking lot. In short it was really stupid.

But I just found out that it has gotten even stupider since then. Have a look:

I can't believe the Vegas Loop continues to be a thing. Wake up, Vegas! You've been conned, move on.

Gambling is a scam, too. This is a place run by casinos (previously owned by crime syndicates) that were deliberately built outside of the city limits so their owners wouldn't have to pay taxes. They have a fake Venice, a fake Eiffel Tower, a fake pyramid. They built a huge holographic boob for one billion dollars in an attempt to attract visitors by protecting smileys on it - like a fishing lure for morons. And people used to visit so they could watch the nuclear tests.

A network of toxic sludge tunnels fits right in there.
