Whenever the topic of Trump comes up, I'm reminded of my grad professor in US History. He lived by the motto "tolerate no fools" and I'm positive he would not just flunk Donald, he would toss him from the window.

Concerned European football chiefs discuss response to Trump over Greenland

Football’s authorities have been reluctant to offer public responses to a fast-moving situation that threatens the territory of Denmark, a Uefa member. But the demand for a reaction will intensify if Trump does not back down, particularly as the US will host 78 of the World Cup’s 104 games in June and July.

Some senior figures believe military aggression to take Greenland, which Trump has refused to rule out, would be the tipping point for a Uefa-led boycott or other major steps in protest at the US administration.

Fifa’s leadership, who have forged close ties with Trump’s government, are thought to deem such a development unlikely at this point. Calls for a boycott have reared up in recent days, the German politician Jürgen Hardt recently suggesting it would be a last-resort option and a petition in the Netherlands nearing 90,000 signatories by Tuesday evening.

The International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo should award TrumptyDumpty with a Golden Clown Award (the Oscars equivalent in the circus world) for best international clowns act.
I think you're on to something. His head would explode! "It's a shiny award! But it's a clown award! But it's a shiny award! But it's a clown award! But it's" *splut*

It will not happen. They played in Argentina while the junta was in charge, they played in Qatar while the labor rights were trampled big time (almost slavery), they will play in the USA, unless the orange one has grabbed Greenland before the start of the tournament.
Foorball is like the fights in the Colosseum in Rome 2000 years ago: "bread and circuses" (panem et circenses - Juvenalis).

Were a living in strange times: in the past the mafia hated press, nowadays former mafia bosses are giving away free lessons on Youtube. Maybe our politicians should take some lessons here.

Danish pensionn fonds Akademikerpension is selling off all US treasury bonds until end of month. We are talking about $100 million in bonds. The impact will probably not big, if any, still... they have enough.

The Dutch pension fund ABP, that handles and pays my retirement income, has more than a quarter of their assets invested in the USA. We are talking about 160 billion euro out of a 542 billion total. They can't retract that kind of money in a short time period without losing an arm and a leg from their customers.

The Danish Akedemiker Pension's action is more window dressing than anything else IMHO.

Trump steps up demand to annex Greenland but rules out using force

TACO
“I don’t want to use force. I won’t use force. All the US is asking for is a place called Greenland,” he said. “You can say yes, and we will be very appreciative. Or you can say no and we will remember.”

Referring to the US record in the second world war as a justification for his demand, Trump told the global audience: “Without us, now you’d all be speaking German, or a little Japanese perhaps.”
He said Denmark had been overrun by Germany “after just six hours of fighting”, prompting the US to intervene “at great cost and expense”. He insisted that only the US was now fit to defend “this enormous, unsecured island”.

Trump said: “You need the ownership to defend it. You can’t defend it on a lease. Who the hell wants to defend a licence agreement, or a lease?”

At several points Trump appeared to confuse Greenland with Iceland, claiming “Iceland” had caused a drop in stock prices on Tuesday – when markets fell as a result of his threat to impose new tariffs on eight European countries.
I always thought that the US entered WW2 in 1941, after Pearl Harbour, rather than after the German invasion of Denmark on April 9, 1940. Up until Pearl Harbour, of course, the original America First movement were vociferous supporters of US neutrality, fiercely opposed to the US intervening on behalf of Great Britain, France and, later, the Soviet Union.

We could have had expanded bases and economic development just for asking. The income from military spending and mineral rights can help create the conditions for Greenland to declare independence by replacing the Danish subsidy. After all of this bluster we will get exactly what we had a year ago. Only now we have damaged relationships with our closest allies to get right back where we started.

He's backing off from using force (probably with a HUUUGGE grain of salt, when selling US bonds became a viable threat.) Still might work what with China, Saudi Arabia, and the Blackstone Group already heavily divested. We're already close to losing our global world currency status and could face the end of American power, just like Spain after gold & silver dried up, the Netherlands lost their trading empire, France and the U.K. after WW 2 debts and decolonization.

Trump interview: President tells CNBC ‘We have a concept of a deal’ with Greenland

Trump said he backed off on plans to impose punitive tariffs on a slew of European countries because he reached a “concept of a deal” with respect to Greenland.

“We have a concept of a deal. I think it’s going to be a very good deal for the United States, also for them,” Trump said. “It’s a little bit complex, but we’ll explain it down the line. But the Secretary General of NATO, and I and some other people were talking.

Earlier in a post on Truth Social, Trump said he and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have “formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland.”
The concept of a deal. Right.

Maybe he'll also explain how he reached an agreement with the Secretary General of NATO about the sovereign territory of one of its members. Maybe the prime minister of Denmark could reach a similar framework of a concept (or vice versa) of a deal for California.
