all those billions of £ and € that governments spend on freeing ourselves from relying on the US are billions of £ and € that they won't be spending on education or health or social welfare or tax cuts. It's going to be a bumpy ride.
Tue, but if we don't act quick we might loose our freedom. I think it is that serious. We are heading for some dark years to come.

IMHO that extra money will be well spend. No tax or governmental budget cuts can help us.
Increase taxes a few percent for everyone and a lot for the super rich and no cuts in heath care, education or social welfare needed are needed. I think everybody who doesn't live under a rock would understand the need of that at the moment.

Trump wrote a bizarre letter to the prime minister of Norway. Obviously Trump is too dumb to realise that Norway has nothing to do with the peace nobel price.

Maybe the UK should try to get parts of the US back with the same argument?

“Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.

“Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also.

“I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT”

I would welcome our new French overlords with open arms, considering my current location was a part of the Louisiana purchase. When do we start on our strike training? Are there classes in shrugging my shoulders and uttering "C'est comme ça"?

Yeah but not this time. I mean, it's a bonus for sure if it distracts from Epstein, but nah, Goldfish-brain really does have his heart set on associating his name with the US "gaining territory" as a separate thing.

On day 1, he renamed Denali to Mt McKinley. McKinley is remembered for winning the Spanish-American war and adding the last substantial territory to the US. His obsession with expansion and with naming stuff after himself, I think, is his way of trying to get history to remember him as something other than the twice-impeached President who never won a majority of the vote in 3 consecutive elections.

eta: Also explains his ballroom and obsession with DC architecture.

I predict that his efforts will be futile. There's enough of us who have witnessed the reality of his cruel insanity that it will never be forgotten :banghead:

Trump’s conduct has never resembled mere incompetence, impulsiveness, or even corruption. Instead, it has always been a sustained pattern of national sabotage carried out through strategic chaos—one that Russia openly welcomes and is publicly celebrating as they watch America’s power, alliances, and credibility erode.

The current crisis surrounding Greenland only reaffirms this. Greenland has become the clearest test yet of whether NATO can survive when the danger comes from inside the alliance, because Trump’s renewed threat to invade allied territory cannot be dismissed as bluster or theatrics, particularly given that NATO was created explicitly to contain and deter the Soviet Union and to prevent precisely this kind of coercion against Europe by a dominant power.
What makes this moment more disturbing is that it fits a pattern many decades in the making. After returning from the Soviet Union in the late 1980s—following a trip bearing the hallmarks of KGB cultivation—Trump’s political instincts consistently aligned not toward confronting adversaries but toward attacking U.S. allies, undermining NATO, and recasting American security partnerships as liabilities rather than strategic assets, a posture that mirrors long-standing Soviet and Russian objectives to fracture Western unity from within.

Is there already a sewer facility named after him?
I seem to remember rumors of a few municipal landfills being renamed Trump Dumps in his dishonor, and more than one outhouse sports a sign designating it as a Trump Presidential Library.

Quite often over the past weeks my finger had hovered over the "New Topic" button with the intention of starting a "World War III" topic, in readiness. *sigh*

Just dumping a box of stars over stripes in various areas doesn't really work as an American flag if you're landscaping with it, too.

Fact check: The false claims in Trump’s extraordinary message to Norway

In an extraordinary message to Norway’s prime minister, President Donald Trump linked his pursuit of the self-governing Danish territory of Greenland to his failure to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He repeated his long-debunked claim that he ended eight wars. And he made another false claim – that no written documents support Denmark’s ownership of Greenland.

“Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also,” Trump wrote.

In reality, Nordic boats began arriving in Greenland centuries before the United States even existed; the settlement that became Greenland’s capital of Nuuk was established by a Danish-Norwegian missionary in the early 1700s, decades before US independence. Of course, the history of many countries, including the US, also involved Europeans arriving by boat and claiming territory in regions previously populated by Indigenous peoples. But just as that wasn’t the end of the story for the US, it’s not the end of the story for Greenland. There are numerous written documents recognizing Danish sovereignty over Greenland – some of them signed by the US government during this century and the last.
