Some of my favourite Northern German foods are pizza, szechuan chicken and tortilla wraps with mango, arugula and goat cheese.

German magazine "Der Spiegel" reports that the administration of Iran planned the execution of Josef Schuster, the president of the central council of Jews in Germany and Volker Beck, the president of the German-Israel-Association.

The would be killer has Danish citizenship, but originates from Afghanistan and is named Ali S. He made his investigations and preparations in spring 2025, but was arrested during that.

Now he is put on trial before a court in Hamburg. The Iranian government denies any involvement.

While I like döner kebab, that's something I don't make myself (there's no shortage of good döner places where I live).

I occasionally make these, though:


Tastes great if you put it with some coleslaw between two bread roll halves.

I guess it's close enough and since I'm from Northern Germany, that makes it another "Northern German" food.

Germany lost the vote for a temporary seat in the UN Security Council. Instead Portugal and Austria gained one. It's the first time Germany missed out on a rotating seat.

Many do view Germany's unwavering support for Israel as main reason for that.

Also our former super idiotic foreign secretary Annalena Baerbock resigned after serving for one year as the president of the general assembly, which is normal.

Fifteen of the 193 UN member states sit on the UN Security Council. Germany was in competition with Austria and Portugal for two seats in the "Western Europe and Others" group.

German civil law has four levels of courts from top to bottom:

1. Bundesgerichtshof (BGH)
2. Oberlandesgericht (OLG)
3. Landgericht (LG)
4. Amtsgericht (AG)

When being the plaintiff you are going from lowest court to highest over time, if possible. This also means that Landgericht is able to revise decisions from the Amtsgericht, OLG from LG and so on.

If the amount in dispute is 10.000 Euros or less, you will start at the AG. If it is bigger than 10K, you will start at the LG. The amount of dispute is higher than 10K, which is why this was the first decision on that matter. It has no fundamental meaning. Since Google has an office in Munich this is why it started here.

Only decisions from the BGH have that, and from the OLG can act as guideline for lower courts in its jurisdiction.

In other words: let's see how this is going to progress, and come back to it in 2-3 years or so.

Certainly, and any significant civil (or criminal) case is any jurisdiction with which I'm familiar is subject to several levels of appeal. Doubtless this will be appealed all the way to the top, and quite possibly to the CJEU in Luxemburg (the top EU court) and/or the European Court of Human Rights on free speech grounds.

As you suggest, we won't see a final result for the next couple of years.

But to my mind this is significant in that the lower court decision has started the process by finding that German law supports the plaintiff's' case and that Google doesn't enjoy immunity from its own AI's errors (as opposed to errors in third party sites). The decision may be reversed by a superior court, of course, but it's the first step and, to my mind, a significant one.
