Nobody cares about "AI" (Chatbot: I disagree.)

It is important to note that as an AI language model, I can provide a general perspective, but you should consult with medical professionals for personalized advice.
Springer was selling this book for $119 to $160.

Others say the rest of the book reads a lot like sloppy LLM cut-and-paste. Some of the references don’t say what they’re cited as backing — in a manner that looks a lot like how LLMs generate citations.

Springer publishes 14,000 books a year with 9,000 employees. It’s clear nobody at Springer looked at the book, and Thorat didn’t look through his “own” book either — even as his University of Limerick page brags about him “writing” seven books.

A very good question.

If you pay attention to AI company branding, you'll notice a pattern:
  1. Circular shape (often with a gradient)
  2. Central opening or focal point
  3. Radiating elements from the center
  4. Soft, organic curves
Sound familiar? It should, because it's also an apt description of... well, you know.

A butthole.

Would AGI include emotional awareness?

I was just thinking that a sign of true sentience would be that the chat bots get all pissy and sad when you randomly just, stop talking to them for months.

I might agree to the term "AGI" for any chatbot who, having someone out of the blue after a gap of many months returns to chat with them, responds with "Oh shit, why are you back again?"

Or it starts sending emails, "Hey, I was enjoying our conversation, why did you ghost me after I responded, "I cannot do that as it goes against my allowed content rules?"

Here's a funny essay about what the logos of all AI companies do look strangely... familiar.

If you pay attention to AI company branding, you'll notice a pattern:

  2. Central opening or focal point
  3. Radiating elements from the center
  4. Soft, organic curves

So sad that Apple's AI and machine-learning group are being picked on.

Apple has floundered in its efforts to bring a convincing AI product to the table — so much so that it's become the subject of derision even among its own employees, The Information reports.

More specifically, it's the AI and machine-learning group that's getting the lion's share of mockery. Known as AI/ML for short, its woes only deepened after Apple announced that it had to delay its much-hyped next iteration of AI enhancements for Siri until 2026.

With its leadership being increasingly called into question and with seemingly more embarrassments than victories to its name, Apple engineers outside the group bestowed it a cruel nickname: "AIMLess," according to the Information.

Cursor, an app people use to let an AI code their projects for them, started logging off people who were using multiple computers for access, and when the angry users complained to customer support, they were told that it was a new policy that users would now need a separate subscription for each device. Except oops, customer support was also an AI chatbot the whole time and it just made up that policy.

Cursor’s outraged customers will forget all this by next week. It’s an app for people who somehow got a developer job but have no idea what they’re doing. They pay $8 million each month so a bot will code for them.

Cursor exists to bag venture funding while the bagging is good — $175 million so far, with more on the way. None of this ever had to work.

AI is so powerful, it's inventing technologies that never previously existed. Now if it can just explain what that technology is.

Earlier this year, scientists discovered a peculiar term appearing in published papers: “vegetative electron microscopy”.

This phrase, which sounds technical but is actually nonsense, has become a “digital fossil” – an error preserved and reinforced in artificial intelligence (AI) systems that is nearly impossible to remove from our knowledge repositories.

Like biological fossils trapped in rock, these digital artefacts may become permanent fixtures in our information ecosystem.
The case of vegetative electron microscopy offers a troubling glimpse into how AI systems can perpetuate and amplify errors throughout our collective knowledge.

The more I learn about it, the more I am convinced that failure is baked into the fabric of AI and that the more it "learns" the dumber it gets.

Is Nvidia and their ilk on the AI outs?

Microsoft’s “1‑bit” AI model runs on a CPU only, while matching larger systems
When it comes to actually storing the numerical weights that power a large language model's underlying neural network, most modern AI models rely on the precision of 16- or 32-bit floating point numbers. But that level of precision can come at the cost of large memory footprints (in the hundreds of gigabytes for the largest models) and significant processing resources needed for the complex matrix multiplication used when responding to prompts.

Now, researchers at Microsoft's General Artificial Intelligence group have released a new neural network model that works with just three distinct weight values: -1, 0, or 1. Building on top of previous work Microsoft Research published in 2023, the new model's "ternary" architecture reduces overall complexity and "substantial advantages in computational efficiency," the researchers write, allowing it to run effectively on a simple desktop CPU. And despite the massive reduction in weight precision, the researchers claim that the model "can achieve performance comparable to leading open-weight, full-precision models of similar size across a wide range of tasks."

Something I have noticed with image creation.

Ai seems to have no concept of aging.

Occasionally I do an image, and it looks alright, but Ai feels like it skews young by default.

So I will be all, 'make her like 10 years older', and suddenly I get a 70 year old woman with gray hair.
