Once you understand that the broligarchs are eugenicists who care more about hypothetical, future AI-enhanced lives than about today’s population and believe that it is their right and their duty to sit atop a brutally hierarchical society where cold, computational “rationality” trumps human rights and dignity, a lot of things start making sense. Like joining forces with a wannabe authoritarian who is willing to do what it takes to make the world safe for AGI. Or planning to take over Gaza and threatening to invade Greenland, both of which offer prime real estate for a Freedom City. Or blowing up the transatlantic alliance over European tech regulations. Or using American immigration policy to defend Silicon Valley from the tech accountability movement. The list goes on.

This is a bit of a long read but you really really should read the whole thing when you have the free time, especially if you've never heard of "TESCREAL" before or are unsure what it means. Like, you've definitely seen it in the news lately how some AI CEOs and developers have been making announcements about how dangerous AI is, but you may not realize that this is a theological argument between different sects of an AI-focused quasi-religion that despite their differences all agree on the broad strokes in a way that is disastrous for the rest of us, just not in the ways they're implying. And this AI religion isn't an oddity that emerged among some AI researchers and developers, like the way chatbots inflict some users with "AI psychosis". It's what started all of the AI development in the first place, and all of the AI CEOs and hypebros belong to it - literally all of them.

I'm going to say that Meta's new Muse AI agent is not ready for prime time by a long shot. But that won't stop them from pushing it (I'm already being hit with online ads)!

Last week, Meta executives announced that its much-hyped AI agent, Muse, had a new feature: It could call businesses for you to do things like make a restaurant reservation or a haircut appointment. But in reality, Meta is testing having these calls being made by human beings in call centers, 404 Media has learned.

Once again, a core feature of a major piece of AI technology will actually just be people working in a call center, doing work that a company says AI is doing. It is not clear how often or when a call is routed to a so-called “human agent,” and when a call is done exclusively by AI.

The fact that human beings are involved in the call raised questions among employees, who wondered both about the privacy implications of sharing people’s call requests with other human beings as well as the perception that its AI assistant wasn’t advanced enough to do calls on its own.
