Fighting to the very end. What an amazing person, with an amazing legacy.

/hitting [post reply] before the urge to start thrashing about with f-bombs takes over.

Back when Obama was in office, and the Dems held the Senate, there was talk of replacing her while we still could, and she absolutely threw that back in their faces like she thought she was going to live forever. I suspect this won't be a popular opinion, but I frankly do blame her a bit. ...but only a bit..
Yeah, they wouldn't even put Garland in when they had the chance. The party leadership is spineless.

They didn't have that chance... the Republicans controlled the senate at that point. The talk of RBG retiring was back when the Dems still had the Senate.

Obama and the democrats in the senate could have forced the issue....
How? With a Republican controlled Senate, any further effort to push in Garland would have been purely symbolic. Obama nominated him and the Republican controlled Senate said no. End of story.

Thomas must be getting old. Who else has a chance of being replaced next term? Yes, I'm doing a merciful distraction in our hour of darkness.

In this climate do you really believe that it's remotely possible to get 1, much less 2 judges on the supreme court?

That's assuming that they don't totally sandbag Biden to keep him out of office.

It's possible, but very improbable...
Not if we flip the Senate and WH.

I was talking with my sister and she made a side comment about it. After a massive huh I found out it had just happened and I was not watching the news.

We are NOT fucked and this is NOT over. We fight back. Angry ignorant old white people is not exactly a demographic coalition with a long-term future. We've been beaten before. I had friends whose quilts were laid on the National Mall while Ronnie and Nacy danced on the figurative graves of our dead. We didn't quit then and we're not going to now. The best way to honor RBG's life is to commit to continuing her fight(s) for us and our future. Don't lei her memory be dishonored by these misogynistic bastards.

The debate is simple, and the question behind that debate should be posted/reported/tweeted everywhere until Jan 20, 2021:

Why isn't the McConnell Rule good enough for McConnell?

EDIT:

That depends on your point of view. If you're poor, if you're a minority (particularly black or hispanic) then that point of view is significantly ...more grim.

That doesn't change the need to fight. We're sliding into civil war; of course we'll be fighting.

I'd like to point out that if there is a civil war for real (I still see it as unlikely) liberals will lose. Police, military and gun owners are mostly conservatives...

Want to honor Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg? Show up to vote Nov. 3
Ginsburg showed me the power of working from a disadvantage — the more they underestimate you, the more satisfying the victory. Her 22-year battle against various cancers was an inspiration for someone who lost his mother just last year to ovarian cancer.

I especially loved Ginsburg’s friendship with the late Justice Antonin Scalia, her polar opposite in nearly every way, from faith to build to politics. If they were able to be pals, I always wondered, the rest of us could as well — and should.

But that possibility now looks more distant than ever before.

We can start with Pelosi telling McConnell and DJT that the budget resolution and the second round of stimulus are off the table if they so much as advance a name.

You are 100% correct

This isn't something I'm advocating for, revolutions go poorly as a rule.

This is something I'm saying (based on what I'm reading -see upthread) is coming down the road.

I'm actually surprised the Republicans haven't named their nominee yet. Fucking vultures!
As I expected, Ruth's body hasn't even gone cold yet and Turtle McTurtleface is already declaring the Senate WILL approve Trump's nominee before the election.

I'm not advocating for it, either, but historically, when push comes to shove, us liberals always kick the hell out of conservatives. They like to shout fire and brimstone, and they might take a battle here and there, but they don't know how to win a war. We beat them in the civil war. We beat them to get an 8 hour work day, laws against child labor, and the right to unionize. We beat them in the civil rights movement. We can do it again, if we have to. I don't think we have to, but you know... if we did have to, we could do it.
