They're the "Never Trump" Republicans.

The fact they hate Trump and make very effective attack ads doesn't mean they're not Republicans.

That said, the people they presumably targeting with these ads probably don't keep up on current events that much, other than to know that Russians are bad guys (and who are probably more shocked at the fact that Russia was once a Communist country than they would be were they to learn it's now very close to being a fascist one).

They could have done this ad referring to mobsters, the hackers in Leningrad, the Annexation of the Crimean Peninsula, and the "New Russia's" record on human rights under Prezident Putin.

It's the nature of privilege to focus on what makes others have less of it, while remaining deliberately oblivious to benefiting from having more of it.

Privilege works because they put others down, and when they disagree, the onus is thrust on them to try to disprove the cherry picked anecdotes used again them.f Ift were the other way around and privileged insisted on their superiority, they're making a more easily falsified assertion.

At times it seems like the narrative being spun is that having privilege is what made people white, not the other way around.

You can see the same thing with LGBT stuff. The terms cis and straight come up, not as epithets (well, most of the time) but simply as qualifiers and ones that do not assume another group is always other. The way some people react to those 2 words you would think they are the worst insults imaginable though.

According to the Vanity Fair article, the main concerns are that it wouldn't look good to be fighting with the authorities about it, particularly considering what the infection rate and death toll may well be by the time of the convention, and that, if it does go ahead, delegates will be unwilling to expose themselves to the unnecessary risk of attending and he risks another embarrassing flop like Tulsa, only far worse.
