Today apparently Trump has announced "guidelines for re-opening America", which are literally "whatever each state has already been individually announcing they will be doing and deciding for themselves over the last week, except we'll officially call the whole thing Trump's idea."

Trump is like a piece of shit stuffed up your nose.

Anything he is associated with stinks (hard to think of exceptions) and it is hard to get past his stench to give whatever he is pitching an honest appraisal. Most of the time it is not worth an honest appraisal. Switching metaphors, he creates so much noise it becomes hard to hear what reasonable people are saying about those same topics (like reopening).

So in addition to everything else he does, he wears us down, makes us less capable. When we spend a lot of time focusing on Trump, to some extent we ourselves are shoving that piece of shit in. Isn't that a nice image? It's not that we should not keep track of his latest fuckery, we should, but we have to protect ourselves from the sensory overload he creates (his best tactic, I think).

My goal is to avoid feeling helpless in all this. I think a sense of discipline is needed. We have to pay attention to what other people are saying and find the best voices out there to listen to. At the moment, I like Gov. Cuomo.

In the long run the quips and memes about Trump do not make us more capable. I like them, but they don't give me a sense of control. I feel more like a dummy watching a parade going by. Look at all the clowns and funny characters trying to stuff shit up my nose, maybe not just Trump.

Having spent the first half of the column eviscerating the British government, she turns her attention elsewhere

Perhaps the best thing that can be said at the moment is that at least we’re not the United States. At the time of the Antonine plague, the Roman empire was ruled by Marcus Aurelius, a philosopher-statesman whose Meditations still racks up healthy sales a full 1,840 years after his death. At the time of the coronavirus, the US is ruled by Donald Trump, a realtor whose The Art of the Deal … probably won’t do.

I wish twitter would just delete his account, he is no longer an amusing troll, he is shouting fire in a theatre.
Money talks, and his bullshit brings them ad revenue. 😡
I won't if Twitter would bear any legal responsibility for injury or death directly attributable to his tweeted venom?

Liberate Minnesota? We have the lowest Covid-19 growth rate in the country! *confused look*

He's right about the second amendment being under attack in Virginia, but that started before the pandemic shutdown.

I'm not familiar with the particular gun-control measures involved, but I'd have thought an attack on the second amendment would be defined as trying to eliminate it from, or change it in, the Constitution, unless the local law is actually banning all gun ownership.

State 1: hey state 2, we are going to put up a border to you, kay?

State 2: oh supremes, we want to ask you about this commerce clause thing ...
I'm not a constitutional lawyer, but if health concerns can postpone elections, it seems reasonable to me that health concerns can close state borders.

The Texas governor has already been limiting travel from Louisiana, e.g., Texas tightens rules on neighboring Louisiana over COVID-19 I haven't heard of any challenges to these policies. At least they haven't made the news, and I think they would.

This issue would be an example of assuming that anything associated with what comes out of Trump's mouth must be all bullshit. Trump's version of the idea is always going to be highly suspect, but there probably are qualified people who have already considered these kinds of issues. I'd like to hear what they have to say.

ETA: I vaguely remember embargoes on California produce because of the Mediterranean fruit fly. That was a long time ago.
