I wonder how long it will take the cruise industry to recover from all this free publicity?

My wife used to work as a machinist at the Norfolk shipyards, and she has point-blank refused to ever get on a cruise liner. Apparently she has a very good idea of what goes on below decks and how poorly maintained these ships can be. And that was before the days of norovirus and coronavirus.

Those ships are not equipped for quarantine measures, and can become nasty floating petri dishes. Before COVID-19, Princess Cruiselines were beseiged with rather nasty food-borne viruses in the past. There's nothing like hearing a ship full of people with explosive diarrhea hanging around to really put me off traveling by boat ever.

Gavin Newsome seems to think three days is optimistic. All the California residents and people in dire need of medical attention have priority to get off the ship.
