Having below-average IQ and lacking basic critical thinking skills must be prerequisites for being a MAGA.
I suspect that one of the emotions that drives Trump's base is the anxiety of living in a world they don't understand. The conservative mindset does not handle complexity, nuance and ever-shifting circumstances. More information does not provide insight, it just overwhelms them, because they don't have the analytical skills to organize all that influx of facts into a useful reference.

They are attracted to someone using simplistic language to describe problems and offering equally simplistic solutions. And that makes them a perfect mark.

Yes, to build on this, I often see old conservatives remark about how things CHANGED as if it was just self evident that the change was bad.... "When I was a kid there was only cows milk and now we have oat and soy and....." Stuff like that. The conservatives I knew who embraced change, didn't stay conservative for very long... Everyone I know who was raised conservative but wasn't afraid of a changing world seemed to deprogram themselves from it.

I don't think it's quite that.

It's like emails from Nigerian princes -- most people see them for what they are, but they cost nothing to send out and there's a lot of money to be made from the tiny percentage of recipients who do swallow the bait.

ETA I think it's tapping into the same market as the Iraqi Dinar scam.

As usual, Trump is focused on the important things. Let's see the list never gets used, shall we?

Every informed book I've read on the guy has predicted this. We're dealing with a malignant narcissist, after all.

The pinching part is whether there's ever an end to the dance. Prison won't shut him up. Hungry and unimaginative reporters will seek him out as long as there's a story, thus feeding the loop. The only thing that will shut him up is if/when he dies.

I manage a small, private Facebook group for a club of middle aged women. It's astounding how many ridiculous rumors spread quickly online. See also: Alex Jones. Convicted of malicious lies, some people still listen to and believe him!

It's like they forgot to pack their brains when they left the house this morning.

Scams like that only need a small percentage of fools to be financially worth it. Trump relies on the fact that a large amount of voters can be manipulated very easily by scaring them. I think a lot of it is strong confirmation bias. They are afraid the rage bait might be true so they believe it. It also seems like a lot of them won't update their world view with new information. I find that even when one of my more right leaning friends agrees that I refuted a particular claim, they still go back to the same bad sources over and over again. There is no fundamental learning or change that happens from presenting evidence.

Well for me Trump has quite much in common with a succesful priest or leader of a cult: good ones use easy to understand, direct language in short sentences, they've got a message of hope for their believers, offer them the feeling that they do matter and are loved/needed while the rest of the world has abandoned them, they talk about the stuff which really matters to their people and have own signs/rites/other stuff which their believers can use to identify themselves and gather behind while also naming an external enemy all can agree upon.

Prison would do that. He isn't in good enough shape to last long there.

Another Rasputineer.

Famed political dirty trickster Roger Stone was caught on camera boasting he’s been manipulating Donald Trump for decades.

“I have a 40-year record of being able to convince the big man to do what’s in his best interest,” Stone bragged in footage from an upcoming documentary obtained by The Daily Beast. “He’s not easy to deal with. It’s complicated. He resents any implication that he is handled or managed or directed.”

The key is in lying to Trump by making the former president think he came up with the idea first.

That isn't hard to do. People do this every day, but Trump is completely unaware.

How...unfortunate.

Mar-a-Lago pool flood raises suspicions among prosecutors in Trump classified documents case
An employee at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence drained the resort’s swimming pool last October and ended up flooding a room where computer servers containing surveillance video logs were kept, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

While it’s unclear if the room was intentionally flooded or if it happened by mistake, the incident occurred amid a series of events that federal prosecutors found suspicious.

It sort of looks like Jack Smith might be playing a deadly (for TFG) little game called, "Whoa -- it would be a doggone shame if some innocent people WHO WERE JUST FOLLOWING ORDERS FROM ..... SOMEONE ... were to go down with what is looking an awful lot like a SINKING SHIP! (Hey, remember that Titanic movie with that cute girl and that guy -- what's his name? Man, that was a sad movie, wasn't it? Sorry, totally not relevant here.) That would be terrible. Hey, if you -- yes YOU -- would like to reserve your spot on a lifeboat, just give me a jingle!"

A hasty act, just like the Watergate coverup. It will be interesting to follow this relatively short chain of responsibility, to see just how many flunkies are willing to fall on their own swords for "The Don".
