I can't wait for him to get asked about this under oath.
My first thought was that there isn't a lawyer on Earth crazy enough to put that dizzy fool on the stand.

Then I reflected on the parade of Loons With a Law License (tm) we've seen and --- hell, I guess anything could happen.

As long as his ego lets him sit through a trial without responding. A good prosecutor can probably bait him into testifying against the advice of counsel.

I don't know how it works in the US, but here I think the strategy would be, when the prosecution have closed their case, to ask the judge to rule that no reasonable jury, properly directed, could convict on the basis of the evidence so far presented, and that the case should therefore be dismissed.

If that doesn't work, and the judge allows the case to go the jury, it's sometimes necessary to give the client very robust advice about reconsidering their plea.

It works that way here as well. Usually nobody expects the motion to succeed but attorneys are obligated to try in the best interest of their client. It does occasionally work.

Can’t wait till the title of this thread is answered.

I swear, if he doesn’t go to jail, no one should ever have to either.
The fact that none of these fucking crooks are in jail yet is already making me question why we even have a justice system a bit. Because its clearly broken.
