The only thing you may not have taken into account, Bartholowmew is that the captains of industry and foreign exploitation and our elected officials over here have traditionally been of European heritage and they had significantly more respect for Europeans than for less white people in Asia and Latin America whom they felt positively proud of f*cking with.
We got a saying over here: at the end of the day your shirt will be always nearer to you than your pair of trousers.

Maybe officially they had, but in reality there were normally three flavours of reactions you could get from an American government:

1. you were in line with their goals/intentions - best friends ever, getting bone crushing hugs,
2. you did somewhat disagree - some more or less harsh scolding,
3. you disagreed - than they opened up their suitcase with kompromat material and blackmailed you.

Not my saying, the source is Willi Wimmer, former member of the German government of Helmut Kohl, CDU.

I can't disagree.

He doesn't know what NATO is. That's all.

An increase in military spending is literally what he asked for earlier when he said he wanted them to provide more of their share.

But he doesn't know what NATO is. He thinks that it's all the US and that other countries pay directly for protection. He wants tribute, not a mutual defense pact.
Exactly. While I can see a simpleton would think everyone should pay the same (or proportionally the same) that is not how it works. The US has a huge defense budget so that is how we contribute. Other countries are in strategic positions so them allowing bases on their soil is how they contribute.

It's also a freaking *18 minute* drive from the White House per Google Maps. I'm sure the President's car can make it in less because they would block off the route. It's 2.3 miles, less than the distance to the nearest fast food place to my house.
The route is walkable even. When I was working at the WH complex I used to live down near where amazon will be at. On nice days I would walk home and turn left at Arlington Cemetery. Although for security reasons, if nothing else, yes, he would travel by motorcade.

Donald Trump failed to show “common decency” when he attacked France’s president on the anniversary of the 2015 Paris terror attacks, a French government spokesman has said.

As France marked the anniversary of the Bataclan attacks in which 130 people were killed, Trump launched a string of angry tweets, blasting the key US ally over its near defeat to Germany in two world wars, its wine industryand President Emmanuel Macron’s approval ratings.

When asked on Wednesday about the US leader’s Twitter posts, French government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux was critical.

“Yesterday was November 13, we were marking the murder of 130 of our people,” Griveaux said. “So I’ll reply in English: ‘common decency’ would have been appropriate.”
Trump’s angry tweets on Paris terror attacks anniversary lack ‘common decency’

"Not really a racist, just acts like a racist does" is a distinction without any real-world-meaningful difference whatsoever.
If he talks like a racist , enacts racist policies and associates with known racists, retweets white supremacists and gets support from KKK grand battlemages or warlocks or whatever the f*ck they are called..... yeah I lost track of where I was going with this, something about quacking and ducks I think.

The Donald did it again! He was successful in finding an even more incompetent person as Secretary of Justice than the one which just left.

Behold the acting attorney general of America, Matthew G. Whitaker in all his glory!

Whitaker worked for a company, which was basically a scamming enterprise, marketing stuff like "time travel will soon be possible", a toilet for special endowed man, disposable underwear for women, also special underwear for men using the slogan "How are your balls feeling today?"

More here: Acting AG Matt Whitaker worked for a company that hawked “time travel” technology and other insane products

I now really wonder how much this new guy is going to care about Mueller... or not.

President Trump Admits Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker Was Installed Over Robert Mueller's Russia Probe

POTUS: Well, I heard it was a very strong opinion. Uh, which is good. But [Whitaker] is just somebody who’s very respected.
I knew him only as he pertained, you know, as he was with Jeff Sessions. And, um, you know, look, as far as I’m concerned this is an investigation that should have never been brought. It should have never been had.
It’s something that should have never been brought. It’s an illegal investigation. And you know, it’s very interesting because when you talk about not Senate confirmed, well, Mueller’s not Senate confirmed.
The president just admitted, unprompted, that he fired the head of the Justice Department and installed a loyalist over a Justice Department investigation into him and his associates. This is obstruction. This is corrupt. This is an untenable assault on the rule of law in a democratic republic.

I think the article may be overestimating how much Trump cares about the election day results, or how much of a "struggle" it is for him to find someone to blame - I thought he was already fairly explicit about why he thinks the people who lost, lost.

I think a very large contributor to his current funk is that he was lifted by all the screaming fans at rally after rally during the pre-election campaigning and now he has lost that. Early on in his presidency, he had his win and the fact that he was now The President to lean on when his own election campaign was over, and even so he still ended up holding a few random "rallies" that first year for literally no political reason whatsoever, purely to recapture that high. This time around he has no "win" and the job of president itself has completely soured on him because he has never won the respect from his perceived enemies that he imagined becoming president would force them to have to show him. He was able to ignore all that for a time by throwing himself into the arms of his adoring supporters during the mid-term rallies but that's over now, and he's emotionally crashing after the sugar rush.
