"As we sit here in the rain, thinking how uncomfortable we must be these minutes as our suits get wet and our hair gets wet and our shoes get wet, I think it's all the more fitting that we remember on that day, in Dieppe, the rain wasn't rain, it was bullets," Justin Trudeau

"With U.S. President Donald Trump and other world leaders looking on during an Armistice Day centennial observance in Paris on Sunday, Macron said the “ancient demons” that caused World War I and millions of deaths are growing stronger"

Macron:
“In saying ‘Our interests first, whatever happens to the others,’ you erase the most precious thing a nation can have, that which makes it live, that which causes it to be great and that which is most important: Its moral values.”

Emmanuel Macron rips nationalism in Paris speech as Donald Trump looks on

‘Real low energy’: Critics pile on after Trump cancels visit to U.S. military cemetery outside Paris

(Sir Nicholas Soames is Winston Churchill's grandson and, like his grandfather, a right-wing Tory. It is not often I find myself agreeing with him).

Also

WTF?

On veteran's day weekend he runs off to Paris to watch the parade. Then he does not even go to a military cemetery?

Fuck him. He is not the president (and especially not the commander-in-chief bit) when he pulls shit like that.

So is there anyone donnie has not said FU to this week? Okay, he did not completely get his way in the midterms but an actual leader sees beyond stuff like that.

It's a shame how Trump behaved - again. He is behaving exactly how many other countries view America - arrogant, downright simple down to dumb, narcisstic and like a spoiled child, which he was by the way. He's doing his country no favor in doing so whatsoever.

The official explanation for Trump's failure to attend the cemetery yesterday is that the helicopter Marine One couldn't fly there in the rain and that it would have meant closing all the highways around Paris for his motorcade to drive there and back.

It's news to me (and probably to the pilots of Mountain and Air Sea Rescue helicopters, Air Ambulances and Police helicopters, too) that helicopters can't cope with rain, but I can see that they might want to take special precautions when flying the US President around.

However, I cannot believe that no one, when they were planning the visit, thought to draw up workable contingency plans, and agree them in advance with both the President's security people and the French, in case the weather was poor -- not exactly unexpected, after all, in northern France at this time of year.
The simplest explanation is that he simply decided he didn't want to attend -- he was tired from the flight, and in a bad mood about the elections and whatever else is bothering him (the thought of what the Democrats in Congress will do to him over the next two years, or the danger of Donald Jr getting his collar felt by Mueller in the near future, maybe), and just announced he'd rather spend some "executive time" in the warm, out of the rain, playing with Twitter and watching cable news.

The person who arranged Obama’s trips etc. said there is always a rain option. Not that once was needed this time, obviously. He just is sulking because he just got his butt kicked in front of the world, emphasizing his illegitimacy among (most of ) the other leaders.

Of course they are planned, but I don't think that the official explanation ever could be: "Sorry folks, but our TrumptieDumpty just doesn't give :poop: about those who have died in the Great War. It is raining for f*ck sake. And her e-mails."

Putin. In contrast to absolutely everyone else, Trump was all smiles when he appeared.

Trump doesn't have a natural smile anywhere in his repertoire of smiles. Every one of his smiles is forced, contrived, and wooden.

What a horror to live his life as something he portrays: "Here I am as the "billionaire tycoon" shaking hands, here I am as the "beloved" president of the grateful American people waving, here I am as the "Great Leader" greeting my Russian handler,..." He doesn't understand that there's any different way of being; he thinks we all are like him, only less "successful."

Honestly we're better off with that pile of shit not being there. He couldn't say any stupid-ass garbage about how cool the US' bombs are and he won't be in historical photos of the 100th anniversary. Everyone wins when Donald just fucks off and doesn't do anything.

But also he's the (sigh) President of the United States and the fact that this happened automatically makes it a best of two awful options situation.
