Right now, I'm in Italy and I just pray that my house is still standing when I finally can get home. My biggest worry are the big oak trees falling on our house. During Ian we had flooding too but not as bad some of my neighbors did. I could not sleep last night and just kept checking the NHC every hour or so because I'm so freaked out.

Every time I see reports of damaging hurricanes, I think of Saturn.

Gigantic Hurricane Spotted on Saturn

We complain about 100-110 mph storms. Cassini catalogued storms that were 2000 km wide and blowing winds at 330 mph (150m per second).

Florida wouldn't last 5 seconds on Saturn. For that matter, neither would I :)

For the record, I wasn't saying it would be a 50-mile wide tornado. Just that, with all the destruction Milton is going to cause, it may as well be.
I didn't read it that way, either. I was just using your comment to hook onto.

On Neptune, winds get up to 1200 mph! It's kind of funny how hostile most of the universe is to life...

Hurricanes can cause tornadoes?! :freakout:
according to my dad during Hurricane Andrew, as we ran for safety ,he claimed to have seen several tornadoes spawned outside( a storm within a storm)... our house was just a few towns away from ground zero ,house was still standing in the end even though almost everything we owned was pretty much sucked out of our rooms( supposedly the roof went up and backdown) but those at ground zero in an area known as homestead, were pretty much demolished. it was like a bomb went off. one of my former co-workers were trapped in a collapsed bathroom barely hanging on with a mattress over there head. house building laws were changed after andrew, most buildings can withstand up to cat4. but with current insurance issues.. people not keeping up with maintince... general corruption... it will be months before they get relief... years before they feel somewhat normal. Cat 5 is no joke..

Submit the FEMA application even if you don't need it. They will cover future storm-related complications, if they develop, but only if a form with that storm ID was received within the timeframe which is some number of days after the incident. We had people here not need FEMA immediately after the tornados last year but did need assistance six months later when their roof caved in from storm damage they didn't realize had occurred.

All the other states have tornados, "Florida the absurd", though, has Sharknados. I mean for heavens sake, just look the politicians, we spawn, talk about a 185 mph bunch of hot wind. 🦈 😏

Praying for anyone in its path and hoping that you've already evacuated to safer zones if instructed. This thing looks monstrous and I can't stop thinking about friends I know in Florida. Any part of Florida, as the impacts could be felt throughout.

The latest track has it well above Miami, so we will thankfully avoid the worst of it. I do worry about the west coast, though. I have friends in the Tampa area who were not able to evacuate. Here is the latest track:
